Baseball Wins 9-5 Over New Jersey City University

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team won 9-5 over conference opponent New Jersey City University on Friday.

The Profs are 22-10 overall and 7-5 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  On Thursday (April 18), Rowan had a 13-2 victory at New Jersey City.  The Gothic Knights have a 14-17 record with a 3-9 conference mark.

Left-hander Kyle Brown (sr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) was the winning pitcher in relief.  He (2-1) went two innings and only gave up two hits.  Right-hander Jomar Casiano (fr. Jersey City, NJ/Ferris) took the loss.  He (3-2) allowed seven hits and five earned runs.

Rowan catcher Stephen Petriello (fr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) went two for three with a triple, two RBIs and one run scored.  Third baseman Kevin McMenamin (so. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) contributed with three hits (five at bats), a triple and three runs scored.  Right fielder Eric Sellitto (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) chipped in with one hit, two RBIs and two runs scored.  Left fielder Nick Kreiger (so. Manlapan, NJ/Manlapan) and first baseman Sean Kelly (sr. North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen) each had one hit and one RBI.  Kreiger also scored one run.  Designated hitter Casey Grimes (so. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) and center fielder Eric Perez (jr. Fords, NJ/Woodbridge) both added two hits and one run scored.

Center fielder Matthew Wagner (so. Colonia, NJ/Colonia) produced three hits in five at bats and one RBI.  Left fielder Andrew Rivera (sr. Edison, NJ/Edison) registered two hits (four at bats), a double and one run scored.  Right fielder Michael Patterson (sr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) had one hit (one at bat) and scored two runs.  Shortstop Nicholas D’Errico (so. Kearny, NJ/Kearny) tallied one hit (two at bats), one RBI and one run scored.

The score was tied at two going into the fourth inning.  Rowan went up 8-2 after scoring three runs in the fourth and fifth innings.  McMenamin crossed the plate in the fourth when Kreiger walked with the bases loaded and Sellitto scored on an error.  Petriello walked and the bases were loaded, scoring Perez.  In the fifth, Sellitto drove in Grimes with a single down the left field line.  Shortstop Ryan William (so. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) had a sacrifice fly that scored McMenamin and Sellitto came home on a wild pitch.

Both teams registered one run in the eighth inning.  In the top half, Patterson reached base with a single and later scored on a wild pitch.  Kelly knocked in Petriello with a single to right field.  Rivera had a double in the ninth inning and scored on a ground out.

Rowan travels to Montclair State University on Saturday, April 20 for conference doubleheader at 11:30 a.m.
