GLASSBORO, NJ – Attack Becca Wood scored five goals as the Rowan University women’s lacrosse team defeated Kean University, 12-9 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Tuesday night.
With the win, the Profs move to 7-5 on the season and 2-1 in the conference while the Cougars are 10-5 overall and 2-3 in the NJAC. Wood (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) also had one assist. Attack Marissa Micciche (jr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) and midfielder Shannon O’Brien (sr. Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) netted two goals apiece.
Midfielder Jamie Blondina (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.), attack Vicky Sucharski (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and midfielder Brittany Bollendorf (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) each added one goal. Blondina also registered two assists and Sucharski and Bollendorf each had one.
For the Cougars, midfielder Lyndsey Cannon (sr. Delran, NJ/Delran) and attack Stephanie Tocko (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River E.) both found the back of the net three times. Cannon had two assists. Midfielder Ciara Mastrodomenico (jr. Blairstown, NJ/North Warren) added two goals and midfielder Marissa Santiago (fr. Ewing, NJ/Ewing) had one.
Rowan held an advantage in the shot department, 35-14 and picked up 21 ground balls to Kean’s 12. Prof goalie Lindsay Barrie (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) earned the win. She played 28:34 and goalie Mary Narozanick (fr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) made three saves in 31:26. Kean goalie Jules Keeley (sr. Ocean Twp., NJ/Ocean Twp.) totaled 10 saves
The Profs jumped on the board first at the 3:19 when Sucharski found Blondina for the early lead. Rowan then netted two more from O’Brien and Micciche to lead 3-0 at 8:43. After two quick goals for the Cougars from Mastrodomenico and Cannon, Wood answered with two straight to retake the lead 5-2, midway through the first half. Both squads traded three more goals in the remaining 11 minutes which made the score 8-5, in favor of the Profs.
From there, Kean opened the second half with a 3-1 spurt but Rowan would counter. Mastrodomenico, Tocko and Cannon each scored a goal. The Profs put together a three-goal run, ignited by Wood at 14:38. Bollendorf and O’Brien followed with one goal apiece for a 12-8 advantage at the 18:47 mark. The Cougars would add one more goal by Cannon but Rowan maintained possession for the final few minutes for the victory.
Rowan travels to Rutgers-Camden on Saturday, April 20 for a 1 p.m. conference game.
