CAMDEN, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team lost at Rutgers-Camden, 9-3 on Monday afternoon. The conference game was rescheduled from Friday, April 12.
The Scarlet Raptors are 17-13 overall and 4-6 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Profs have an 18-10 record with a 5-5 conference mark. Last week, Rowan defeated Rutgers-Camden, 9-3 at home (April 11).
Left-hander Chris Scarlett (fr. Galloway, NJ/Holy Spirit) was the winning pitcher. He (1-3) went 5.1 innings and only gave up two earned runs. Right-hander Dashon Jones (jr. Newark, NJ/East Side) pitched the remainder of the game for his second save. Lefty Kyle Brown (sr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) took the loss.
Third baseman Adrian Gonzalez (jr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) led Rutgers-Camden with two hits (five at bats), a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored. Shortstop Joe Sigismondi (fr. Blackwood, NJ/Highland Reg.) contributed with three hits in five at bats, two doubles, two RBIs and four runs scored. First baseman Dave Prager (sr. Deptford, NJ/Deptford) chipped in with three hits (five at bats), one RBI and one run scored. Designated hitter George Spingler (jr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) produced two hits and one RBI. Catcher Shaune Collins (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) added one double and one RBI.
For Rowan, third baseman Kevin McMenamin (so. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) was three for four with two RBIs. Second baseman Mark Benak (jr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) registered two hits (five at bats), a double, one RBI and one run scored. Catcher Stephen Petriello (fr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) had two hits in four at bats.
Rutgers-Camden was ahead 6-0 after two innings. The Profs trailed by four after two runs in the sixth. McMenamin drove in Benak and first baseman Sean Kelly (sr. North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen) with a single to right field. In the bottom half, Prager had a RBI single, scoring Sigismondi. The Scarlet Raptors had two runs in the eighth for a 9-2 advantage. Benak doubled home left fielder/center field Nick Kreiger (so. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) in the ninth.
Rowan travels to Neumann University on Tuesday, April 16 for a 4 p.m. nonconference game.
