Baseball Defeats Rutgers-Camden, 9-3

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team defeated Rutgers-Camden, 9-3 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Thursday. 

The Profs are 16-9 overall and 3-4 in the conference. The Scarlet Raptors have a 15-12 record with a 2-5 NJAC mark.

Right-hander Ryan Easterday (so. Westmont, NJ/Haddon Twp.) earned his fourth victory on the mound.  In 6.2 innings, he (4-2) scattered six hits and allowed three earned runs.  Easterday struck out 10 batters.  Left-hander Ryan Farabella (jr. Vineland, NJ/Buena Reg.) had the loss.  He (3-2) went five innings and gave up four runs, three earned.

Rowan left fielder Nick Kreiger (so. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) registered three hits (five at bats) and two RBIs.  Shortstop Ryan Williams (so. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) went three for four with one RBI and two runs scored.  First baseman Sean Kelly (sr. North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen) and right fielder Eric Sellitto (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) each posted a double and scored two runs.  Center fielder Eric Perez (jr. Fords, NJ/Woodbridge) chipped in with one RBI and one run scored.  Second baseman Mark Benak (jr. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) and designated hitter Casey Grimes (so. Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro) had one RBI apiece. 

For Rutgers-Camden, first baseman Dave Prager (sr. Deptford, NJ/Deptford) was two for five with a home run.  Third baseman Adrian Gonzalez (jr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) produced two hits (five at bats), a double and one run scored.  Catcher Shaune Collins (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) tallied one hit (three at bats), one RBI and one run scored. 

The score was tied at one after the second inning.  The Scarlet Raptors had a 3-1 lead after one run in the third and fifth innings.  Prager recorded his solo shot in the third inning and Collins had a RBI single in the fifth, scoring Gonzalez.  The Profs went ahead 4-3 with three runs in the bottom half of the fifth inning.  Sellitto led off with a double and came home on a single by Kreiger.  Benak’s sacrifice fly scored Perez and Grimes had a RBI base hit that knocked in Williams.

In the sixth, Kreiger singled and Williams crossed the plate.  Rowan had four runs in the seventh.  Kelly and pinch hitter Danny Lang (sr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) both scored on errors.  Williams singled down the right field line, scoring third baseman Kevin McMenamin (so. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade).  Sellitto came home on a wild pitch.
