CHESTERTOWN, MD – The Washington College (MD) women’s lacrosse team defeated visiting Rowan University, 17-6 on Saturday.
The Shorewomen are undefeated with a 2-0 record while the Profs are 0-2 on the season. Attack Corinne Ziccardi (sr. Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) led the way with five goals and two assists. Midfielder Mollie Shipley (sr. Denville, NJ/Morris Catholic) scored one goal and totaled seven assists. She surpassed 100 career points and tied the single-game school record for assists. Midfielder Emily Hubley (so. West Chester, PA/Bayard Rustin) contributed with two goals and two assists. Hubley compiled 11 draw controls, which broke the College's record.
Attack Caroline Lovett (so. Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) totaled two goals and one assist and midfielder Carly Eisenbrandt (jr. Baltimore, MD/Towson) followed with two goals. Midfielders Liz Godorov (so. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.), Kathleen Maleski (jr. Mount Airy, MD/South Carroll) and Marissa Restaino (sr. Media, PA/Penncrest) and attacks Carley Kendall (fr. Harleysville, PA/Souderton Area) and Laura Nicely (jr. Baltimore, MD/Institute of Notre Dame) all had one goal.
For Rowan, attack Marissa Micciche (jr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) scored three goals. Midfielder Jamie Blondina (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) registered two goals. Attack Vicky Sucharski (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) tallied one goal and one assist.
The Shorewomen took 31 shots and the Profs had 18. Washington goalies Stephanie Seibert (sr. Clear Spring, MD/Mercersburg Academy (PA)) and Rachelle Martinez (jr. Silver Spring, MD/Northwood) stopped four and three shots respectively. Rowan goalie Lindsay Barrie (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) made nine saves in 50:17 minutes and goalie Mary Narozanick (fr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) turned away one shot in 9:43.
The Profs had a 3-2 advantage after Blondina’s goal at 17:08. The Shorewomen ended the half with six straight goals to lead 8-3. Ziccardi registered three goals, Hubley and Lovett each contributed with two and Eisenbrandt had one. Washington went on to score six more times to start the second period. Ziccardi tallied two goals while Eisenbrandt, Shipley, Restaino and Kendall had one apiece. The Shorewomen were up 14-3 at the 39 minute mark. Sucharski (43:15) and Blondina (46:38) each hit the goal one time. Washington answered with goals by Godorov, Nicely and Maleski for a 17-5 lead. Micciche scored the final goal (58:44) with a free position shot.
