Wood Scores Five as Women's Lacrosse Tops Ursinus, 12-6

GLASSBORO, NJ – Behind five goals from attack Becca Wood and a 12-save effort from goalkeeper Lindsay Barrie, the Rowan University women’s lacrosse team defeated Ursinus College, 12-6, on Saturday afternoon at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium.
 
With the win, the Profs improve to 2-3 on the season while the Bears are 1-3 overall. Wood (so. Cherry Hill/Cherry Hill E.) led the charge with her five goals and two assists. Midfielder Jamie Blondina (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) followed up with three goals.  Attack Vicky Sucharski (jr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), attack Marissa Micciche (jr. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon), defender Brittany Bollendorf (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and midfielder Shannon O’Brien (sr. Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) each netted one apiece. Barrie (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) stood tall between the pipes, turning away 12 shots.
 
Ursinus was led by attack Amber Moyer (jr. Womelsdorf, Pa/Conrad Weiser) with three goals while midfielders Kitty Dawson (so. Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough), Devin Brakel (fr. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro) and Nicole Kovacs (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) each added one. Taking the loss in net for the Bears was Margaret Philbin (fr. Danbury, CT/Ridgefield).
 
The Profs outshot Ursinus, 26-21, and held an advantage in draw controls, 13-7. Rowan also shot 50-percent (3-of-6) on free-position shots while Ursinus failed to convert on two opportunities.
 
Rowan jumped out to an early advantage as Sucharski scored the first goal of the day, 48 seconds in and Blondina added her first, just 15 seconds later. Following a goal by Dawson, the Profs answered back with three more from Blondina, Wood and Micciche to give them a 5-1 lead heading into the six-minute mark. After a scoreless 12 minutes of action, Moyer added a second for the Bears but Rowan countered before half with goals from Bollendorf and Wood to make the score 7-2 at the break.
 
In the second half, Moyer got the Bears on the board 94 seconds in but again the Profs regrouped to bury two more goals from Wood and made the score 9-3 with less than a quarter action remaining. From there, the teams each traded three goals as the final was 12-6 after 60 minutes.
 
Next up, Rowan will host McDaniel College on Tuesday, March 19 at 1 p.m.
