GLASSBORO, NJ – The College of New Jersey women’s basketball team won 75-46 over Rowan University in a conference game on Wednesday night.
The Lions are 16-7 overall and 10-4 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. The Profs have a 5-18 record with a 1-13 conference mark.
TCNJ had three players in double figures. Forward Jessica Goldbach (so. Edison, NJ/John P. Stevens) scored 18 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Guard Kelly Roddy (jr. Belmar, NJ/St. Rose) contributed with 12 points while guard Kelly Coughlin (so. Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) added 10 points off the bench. Guard Kylie O’Donnell (so. Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) chipped in with eight points, six boards and six assists.
For Rowan, forward Erin Farrell (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) tied her career-high with 19 points.
Guard Bria Hill (so. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) produced a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Guard Alexis Govan (jr. Bridgeton, NJ/Camden City Tech. Schools) grabbed six boards.
In the first half, Rowan tied the score at six (14:44) with a jumper by Tia Scott (fr. Paulsboro, NJ/Paulsboro). Roddy made a free throw (12:51) and a three (12:25) while guard Colleen Duffy (jr. Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) had a jumper (10:39) for a six point lead (12-6). Farrell sank two foul shots (8:59) and Scott followed with one (7:59), which cut the deficit to one (12-11). With 4:47 remaining, Farrell nailed a three-pointer that knotted the score at 18. Govan’s basket at 2:45 put the Profs ahead 23-21. The Lions ended the period with 11 straight points and they had a nine point advantage (32-23) at the intermission. Goldbach led all scorers with 10 points.
TCNJ started the second stanza with a 13-2 run for a 20 point advantage (45-25) at 16:13. Coughlin and Reddy each scored four points in the surge. Rowan trailed by 14 (53-39) at 9:09 after a jumper by Farrell. The Lions followed with an 11-0 spurt, which made the score 64-39 at 6:09. Coughlin’s layup increased the lead to 30 (72-42) with 3:15 left. She totaled 10 points in the final half while Farrell had 14 for the Profs.
Rowan plays its last home game of the regular season on Saturday, February 9 against Rutgers-Newark at 5 p.m.
