Men's Basketball Wins 62-59 Over New Jersey City University

Box Score GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men's basketball team defeated New Jersey City University, 62-59 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night.

Guard Tim McDaniels (sr. Mount Holly, NJ/Lenape) led the Profs with 18 points.  Guard Jason Rosenberg (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) contributed with 11 points and 10 assists.  Forward Jason Sofman (sr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) chipped in with 10 points.  Guard Phil Jackson (sr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) grabbed eight boards and added seven points.

Rowan improves to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the conference.  NJCU has a 5-2 record with a 2-1 NJAC mark.  For the Gothic Knights, guard Khalid Muhammad (so. Orange, NJ/Orange) totaled 15 points and nine rebounds.  Guard Jourdan Roberson (jr. Brooklyn, NY/University (Newark)) collected 11 points and nine boards. 

In the second half, Muhammad hit a three-pointer at 14:42 to lead 42-41.  Rowan scored six straight points for a five-point advantage (47-42).  Guard Rich McNamara (sr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) sank a three (14:12) and Rosenberg followed with a layup and foul shot (13:49).  Guard David Cole (jr. Avenel, NJ/Colonia) cut the deficit to one (47-46) with two straight baskets.  Rowan had a 6-0 run for a seven-point lead (53-46) at the 8:01 mark.

Roberson had a three-pointer at 6:07 and NJCU trailed by two (53-51).  McNamara's two free throws gave the Profs a five-point lead (58-53) with 5:18 on the clock.  Cole nailed a three (3:40) to pull within two points (60-58).  Sofman and guard Kris O'Connor (so. Mount Laurel, NJ/Shawnee) each made a foul shot, which made the score 62-58 with 19 seconds left.  Forward Walik Albright (sr. Jersey City, NJ/Create Charter) ended the scoring with a free throw at the three-second mark.

The score was tied five times in the first half.  The fifth time was at 32 with 34 seconds remaining, after Albright made the first of two foul shots.  His second made the score 33-32 at the break.  McDaniels was the scoring leader with 13 points in the opening period.   

Rowan is home again on Saturday, December 7 against Kean University at 3 p.m.
