Box Score WAYNE, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team won 4-2 at William Paterson University on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Profs clinched the third seed in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship Tournament.
Midfielder Sam Browne (so. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) scored two goals. Midfielder Amy McKeever (sr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) and forward Jenna Pressler (fr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) each contributed with one goal. Forward Kellie Campbell (jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) and midfielder Marisa Marini (so. Wilmington, DE/Padua Academy) each chipped in with an assist.
For the Pioneers, forward Jessica Nendze (sr. West Milford, NJ/West Milford) and forward Jacqui Giammetta (sr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Hills) had one goal apiece. Midfielder Meghin Stanton (fr. Chesterfield, NJ/North Burlington Reg.) added an assist.
Rowan is 11-6 overall with a final 4-2 conference record. William Paterson has a 10-9 record and a 2-4 NJAC mark. Prof goalie Steph Colombo (sr. Moorestown, NJ/Camden Catholic) made nine saves. Pioneer goalie Kellye Statz (sr. Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) stopped 10 shots.
Giammetta put William Paterson on the scoreboard at 2:47 when she knocked in a loose ball. Pressler tied the score at 29:09 with an assist from Marini. Nendze put the Pioneers up at 29:59 when she finished her own rebound. McKeever knotted the score at 30:43 on a feed from Campbell off a corner. Browne gave Rowan the lead at 48:21 and she added an insurance goal at 57:20.
The NJAC Field Hockey Championship Tournament starts on Wednesday, November 5 with two semifinal games and the final is slated for Saturday, November 9.
