GLASSBORO, NJ – The Richard Stockton College women’s basketball team defeated Rowan University, 86-50 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday evening.
The Ospreys are 8-3 overall and 4-3 in the conference. The Profs have a 4-11 record with a 0-7 NJAC mark. Richard Stockton guard/forward Che’Na Thompson (sr. Salem, NJ/Salem) scored 18 points, which included her 1000th career point. She needed 17 to reach the mark. Thompson also grabbed 14 rebounds. Forward Tiana Cannon (jr. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) produced a game-high 19 points. Guard Jennifer Galamb (so. Toms River, NJ/Toms River N.) contributed with 15 points off the bench. Forward Sarah Farrell (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had a double-double with 14 points and 14 boards. Forward Alexa Ryan (sr. Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) chipped in with 12 points. Guard Alex Nardoza (so. Woodbridge, NJ/Woodbridge) dished 11 assists along with eight points and five steals.
For Rowan, guard Jade Bonder (so. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) scored 13 points. Guard Bria Hill (so. Atlantic City, NJ/Atlantic City) tallied 12 points and five rebounds. Center Stephanie Krauss (sr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) added 11 points. Guard Eyandra Molina (sr. Pleasantville, NJ/Washington Irving (NY)) had eight points, five steals and four boards.
In the first half, Richard Stockton led by six points (8-2) at 15:20 after a jumper by Cannon. Forward Megan Russ (jr. Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Twp.) had a layup at 13:16 and the Profs trailed by three (9-6). With 8:55 remaining, Galamb sank two free throws for a 10 point lead (19-9). Hill’s jumper cut the deficit to five (26-21) at 5:03. The Ospreys followed with 12 unanswered points, which made the score 38-21 with 1:22 left. Farrell and Galamb each contributed with four points while Nardoza and Ryan had two apiece. Richard Stockton was ahead 40-23 at the intermission. Galamb ended the period with 13 points.
Hill had a layup at 15:32 in the second half and Rowan was down by 20 points (48-28). Richard Stockton pulled away with a 20-2 run (68-30) that ended at 9:41. Six different players scored in the surge. The Ospreys’ led by 42 points (78-36) when Thompson nailed a jumper for her 1000th point with 6:19 left. She registered 14 points in the final stanza while Cannon had 12.
Next, Rowan travels to Rutgers-Newark on Saturday, January 12 for a 6 p.m. conference game.
