GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University men’s basketball team had a 74-56 victory over New Jersey City University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday afternoon.

The Profs are 12-5 overall and 6-5 in the conference.  The Gothic Knights have a 7-11 record with a 2-9 NJAC mark.

Rowan was led by guard Kendall White (sr. Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley Reg.) with 14 points.  Forward Brendan Cox (sr. Lindenwold, NJ/Highland Reg.) and guard Rich McNamara (jr. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) followed with 13 points apiece.  McNamara grabbed seven rebounds and Cox had six.  Guard Fred Battee (sr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) scored 11 points.  Guard Matt Whitworth (jr. Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City) added eight points off the bench.  Guard Jason Rosenberg (jr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) dished seven assists.

For New Jersey City, guard Khalid Muhammad (fr. Orange, NJ/Orange) registered 11 points.  Guard Rondre Kelly (fr. Union, NJ/Malcolm X Shabazz) compiled 10 points and seven boards.  Guard Brent Burgess (fr. Roselle, NJ/Dickinson) contributed with nine points.

The Profs began the game with a 14-1 run over the first 5:30.  White and Battee both recorded five points and Cox had four.  The Gothic Knights trailed by 10 (14-4) after a three point play by Kelly at 14:01.  McNamara hit back-to-back three-pointers at 13:44 and 13:04 to extend the advantage to 16 (20-4).  Forward Milton Pittman’s (fr. New Brunswick, NJ/New Brunswick) layup at 10:48 made the score, 23-10. 

McNamara (10:28) and Whitworth (9:01) each nailed a three for a 19 point lead (29-10).  Rowan was up 40-19 after two foul shots by Cox at 2:28.  Guard Dakwan Simmons’ (so. Newark, NJ/University) layup and free throw at the 57 second mark cut the deficit to 15 (42-27).  McNamara sunk two free throws (:46) and center Dan Brogan (fr. Northvale, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) had one (:19) to bring the score to 45-27 at the intermission.  McNamara totaled 13 points in the first half, while Cox and White both had 11.

After a layup by Muhammad (19:30), Rowan had a 9-0 surge to stretch the lead to 25 (54-29) at 17:26 in the second stanza.  Battee registered six points and White hit a three.  Whitworth’s three-pointer at 13:06 pushed the advantage to 29 (61-32).  The closest New Jersey City came the rest of the way was 18 points (74-56) on a layup by Kelly with 16 seconds left to play.
