Rowan Defeats Visiting Cabrini, 4-2

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team defeated Cabrini College, 4-2 in the home opener on Tuesday
night. 

Forward Amy McKeever (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) started the scoring at 9:42.  She had the Profs’ first goal with an assist from back Erin Bernat (sr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro).  Forward Katie Griffis (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) made the score 2-0 at 14:16 with an unassisted goal.  Midfielder Stephanie Toomey (jr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) put Cabrini on the score at 20:49 and midfielder Erin McLaughlin (jr. Woolwich, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) picked up the assist. 

Forward Kellie Campbell (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) scored on a feed from McKeever at 27:46 for a 3-1 advantage.  Forward Karlie Gruccio (so. Landisville, NJ/Buena Reg.) knocked in a rebound to trail by one goal at the break.  In the second period, Rowan’s final goal came on a penalty stroke at 66:45 by Bernat.

The Profs are 1-1 on the season while the Cavaliers are 0-3 overall.  Rowan compiled 26 shots while Cabrini took seven.  Goalies Steph Colombo (jr. Moorestown, NJ/Camden Catholic) and Jen Goldberg (sr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) each played a half in the Profs’ cage and made one save.  For the Cavaliers, goalie Genevieve Paulin (jr. Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) turned away 13 shots. 

Rowan travels to fifth ranked Messiah College on Saturday, September 8 for a 1 p.m. contest.
