Field Hockey Holds On For 3-2 Win At Catholic

WASHINGTON, DC  – The Rowan University field hockey team defeated seventh ranked Catholic University, 3-2 on Saturday.

Midfielder Karlee Henderson (so. Elmer, NJ/Woodstown, NJ) scored the winning goal.  It was the Cardinals’ first loss (4-1) on the season.  The Profs improve to 3-2 overall.

Henderson recorded the game-winner at 66:45 with an assist from forward Kellie Campbell (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson).  After trailing 2-0 at the half, Catholic scored two straight goals.   Forward Colleen Harwood (so. Rockville, MD/Magruder) had the first one at 40:33 with an assist from forward Taylor Elliott (fr. Delmar, DE/Delmar).  Forward Hayley Wright (fr. St. Louis, MO/St. Joseph’s Academy) registered the tying goal at 65:51 and Harwood had the assist.

Campbell put Rowan on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal at 18:52.  Forward Amy McKeever (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) made the score 2-0 at 34:41.  She has four goals on the season.

Catholic took 22 shots while Rowan had 17.  Profs’ goalie Steph Colombo (jr. Moorestown, NJ/Camden Catholic) registered 14 saves while the Cardinals’ goalie Megan Comunale (jr. Hammonton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) made 11.

Next week, Rowan starts its conference schedule at Richard Stockton College on Tuesday, September 18 at 6 p.m.
