GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team defeated visiting FDU-Florham, 4-1 on Thursday evening.
The Profs improve to 2-2 on the season while the Devils have a 3-2 record. Four players each scored one goal. Forward Katie Griffis (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) had the first at 3:14, when she deflected forward Amy McKeever’s shot (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) into the left side of the cage. Forward Kellie Campbell (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) tapped in a pass from Griffis at 19:06. FDU pulled within one at the break. Midfielder Kelsey Kistle (sr. Sandyston, NJ/Kittatinny) scored with a shot off a penalty corner and midfielder Lanie Andrews (jr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville) had the assist.
In the second period, back Erin Bernat (sr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) made the score 3-1 at 51:59 with an unassisted goal. She blasted a shot just inside the circle to the left side. Bernat had a shot then passed the rebound to McKeever who scored at 56:53.
Rowan totaled 25 shots and FDU-Florham had 11. In the Profs’ cage, goalie Steph Colombo (jr. Moorestown, NJ/Camden Catholic) stopped seven shots. Goalie Tess Loughran (jr. Newton, NJ/Newton) started for the Devils. She made nine saves in 56:53. Goalie Jamie Unkel (jr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville) played the remainder of the game.
Rowan travels to Catholic University on Saturday, September 15 for a 1 p.m. contest.
