MAHWAH, NJ – The Rowan University men’s soccer team lost to Berry College (GA), 2-1 on the second day of the President’s Cup on Saturday.
The Vikings captured the tournament title with a 2-0 record. On the opening day of the tournament, Berry shut out host Ramapo College, 1-0 while Rowan defeated Randolph-Macon College, 4-1. Ramapo won 4-1 over Randolph-Macon in the second game on Saturday.
Berry had goals from forward David Shaw (so. Asheville, NC/Christ School) and midfielder Zak Wallingford (so. Lawrenceville, GA/Collins Hill). Midfielder Matt Majestic (jr. Pine Mountain Valley, GA/Columbus) registered an assist. Midfielder Ryan Gordon (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) scored the Profs’ lone goal.
Rowan out shot Berry, 16-10. For the Vikings, goalie Logan Hill (fr. Madison, AL) stopped nine shots. Goalkeeper Ryan Gill (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) made six saves for the Profs.
Shaw put Berry up 1-0 with an unassisted goal at 42:54. In the second half, Gordon tied the score at 55:09. Wallingford recorded the game winner at 70:07 with an assist from Majestic.
Next weekend, the men’s soccer team (1-1) hosts the Rowan Invitational on Friday and Saturday, September 7 and 8. On Friday, Catholic University plays Vassar College at 6 p.m. followed by John Jay College against Rowan at 8 p.m. The consolation game is scheduled for 5 p.m. on Saturday and the championship starts at 7 p.m.
