HAVERFORD, PA – The Haverford College field hockey team started the season with a 4-2 win over visiting 18th ranked Rowan University on Friday.
Forward Mary Hobbs (sr. Wilmington, DE/Tower Hill School) led the Fords with one goal and two assists. Midfielders Bridget Gibbons (sr. Lancaster, PA/Lancaster Catholic) and Catherine Aronowitz (so. Columbus, OH/Columbus Academy) and forward Bryn Bissey (jr. Coopersburg, PA/Southern Leigh) each chipped in with one goal.
For the Profs (0-1), forward Amy McKeever (jr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) and back Erin Bernat (sr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) had one goal apiece. Haverford produced 28 shots while Rowan totaled 19. Fords’ goalie Sydney Hyder (sr. Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) made seven saves. Profs’ goalie Steph Colombo (jr. Moorestown, NJ/Camden Catholic) stopped 14 shots.
Hobbs started the scoring at 31:21 with an unassisted goal and 1:45 later McKeever tied the score. The Fords were ahead 2-1 at the break after Bissey hit the cage with 17 seconds left. Gibbons knocked the ball in at 35:53 on a penalty corner with an assist from Hobbs. Bernat recorded the Profs’ second goal (39:30) on a penalty stroke. Hobbs picked up her second assist when Aronowitz scored at 45:46.
Next week, Rowan opens at home against Cabrini College on Wednesday, September 5 at 7 p.m.
