Rowan Wins 13-12 At Montclair State With Winning Goal By Blondina

MONTCLAIR, NJ – The Rowan University women’s lacrosse team won 13-12 at Montclair State University on Wednesday night.  Midfielder Jamie Blondina scored the winning goal with one second left in the game. 

The Profs are 9-7 overall and 3-1 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference.  The Red Hawks have a 13-5 record with a 3-2 conference mark.

Blondina (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) ended the game with two goals and one assist.  Attack Becca Wood (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) contributed with five goals.  Midfielder Michelle Lubrano (sr. Delanco, NJ/Holy Cross) chipped in with four goals and one assist.  Attack Marissa Micciche (so. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) collected one goal and one assist.  Attack Vicky Sucharski (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) hit the net one time while attack Caitlin Ravel (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) tallied an assist. 

MSU was led by attack Kailee Beal (jr. Succasunna, NJ/Roxbury) with four goals.  Midfielder Cora Delfini (sr. New Egypt, NJ/New Egypt) and attack Maggie Fallon (sr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Camden Catholic) followed with three goals and two assists apiece.  Attack Tierney Conlon (fr. Caldwell, NJ/Caldwell) produced two goals and one assist.  Defender Brittany Dilger (fr. Ocean, NJ/Ocean Twp.) had an assist.   

The Red Hawks totaled 32 shots and the Profs took 26.  Montclair State goalie Tiffani Henderson (jr. Landing, NJ/Roxbury) made 10 saves.  Rowan goalie Lindsay Barrie (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) stopped 10 shots.

The second half started with Montclair State ahead 7-6.  Sucharski scored at 32:36 on a pass from Lubrano to tie the score.  Beal (38:29) and Lubrano (40:12) exchanged goals.  Lubrano put the Profs up 9-8 with an unassisted goal at 42:01.  The Red Hawks had two straight goals by Beal (42:28) and Fallon (44:59) to take back the lead (10-9).  Wood knotted the score at 10 with a free position goal (50:34).  The score was tied at 11 after goals by Delfini (52:40) and Wood (53:41).  Fallon put MSU up for the last time, 12-11 at 56:27 with a goal assisted by Delfini.  With 50 seconds left, Wood evened the score at 12 with an unassisted goal.  Blondina recorded the game- winner on a free position shot with one tick left on the clock.

The Red Hawks started the game with two straight goals, one each from Conlon (1:11) and Delfini (2:19).  The Profs tied the score with goals from Micciche (2:43) and Lubrano (4:07).  Montclair took the lead 5-2 after Conlon (7:48), Beal (12:36) and Fallon (14:33) each scored a goal. 

Wood hit the Red Hawks’ net at 16:42 and 20:43 and Lubrano’s goal at 22:32 tied the score (5-5).  Delfini and Beal scored at 23:31 and 23:49 respectively to take back the lead 7-5.  Blondina scored with an assist from Ravel at 26:55.  The Profs trailed 7-6 at the intermission. 

Rowan ends the regular season at Kean University on Saturday, May 5 at 1 p.m.
