EWING, NJ – The third ranked The College of New Jersey women’s lacrosse team defeated Rowan University, 16-4 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Tuesday night.
The Lions improve to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the conference. The Profs have a 4-6 record with a 0-1 NJAC mark. TCNJ was led by midfielder Alex Spark (jr. Harvey Cedars, NJ/Southern Reg.) with nine goals. Midfielder Leigh Mitchell (sr. Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) dished eight assists. Attack Trenna Hill (jr. Syracuse, NY/Lafayette) registered three goals and one assist. Midfielder Lauren Pigott (so. Jobstown, NJ/Northern Burlington Reg.) contributed with two goals and one assist. Midfielder Kathleen Notos (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) compiled one goal and two assists. Attack Jen Garavente (so. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) scored once. For Rowan, midfielders Michelle Lubrano (sr. Delanco, NJ/Holy Cross) and Jamie Blondina (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) each hit the net twice.
TCNJ took 32 shots, while Rowan had 14. Lions’ goalie Kelsey Zinck (so. Burke, VA/James W. Robinson) made six saves. Profs’ goalie Lindsay Barrie (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) stopped 14 shots.
The Lions jumped out to a 12-0 lead over the first 25:44. Spark collected seven goals, Pigott added two and Hill, Notos and Garavente all had one. Mitchell collected seven assists, while Pigott and Hill dished one apiece. Lubrano’s free position goal at 28:03 made the score, 12-1 at the intermission.
In the second period, Hill (32:40, 33:40) and Spark (39:49, 47:26) each hit the net twice to extend the advantage to 15 (16-1). Blondina had an unassisted goal at 50:22. Lubrano (59:29) and Blondina (59:52) each converted a free position attempt to end the scoring.
Rowan travels to Drew University for a nonconference game on Saturday, April 7 at noon.
