GLASSBORO, NJ – The Catholic University women’s lacrosse team had an 18-7 victory over Rowan University in a nonconference game on Wednesday night.
The Cardinals improve to 11-5, while the Profs have an 8-7 record. Catholic is ranked 15th in this week’s Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Division III Poll.
Attack Katie Miller (sr. Walkersville, MD/Walkersville) totaled six goals and two assists. Midfielder Theresa Ciletti (so. Ocean City, MD/Worcester Prep) accumulated four goals and one assist. Midfielder Mary Swarthout (sr. Rockville, MD/Our Lady of Good Counsel) collected two goals and two assists, while midfielder Mallory Vogel (sr. Bel-Air, MD/C. Milton Wright) hit the net twice. Midfielder Lindsay Brophy (fr. Haddonfield, NJ/Haddonfield) added one goal and two assists.
Midfielder Mary Robinson (sr. Emmitsburg, MD/Catoctin) and attacks Meghan Brady (sr. Huntington Bay, NY/St. Anthony’s) and Nicole Laitner (fr. Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) all had one goal. Defender Meghan Murray (sr. Ijamsville, MD/Urbana) and attack Erin Fowler (so. Wilmington, NC/J.T. Hoggard) dished one assist apiece.
For Rowan, midfielder Michelle Lubrano (sr. Delanco, NJ/Holy Cross) scored three goals. Attack Becca Wood (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) tallied two goals and one assist. Midfielder Jamie Blondina (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) and attack Vicky Sucharski (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) each chipped in with one goal.
Catholic took 32 shots and Rowan had 23. In the Cardinals’ net, goalie Tricia Pehnke (fr. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro N.) made seven saves in 54:39. Goalie Yasmeen Ajdari (so. Bethesda, MD/Walter Johnson) played the final 5:21. Profs’ goalies Lindsay Barrie (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Kerry Pehnke (sr. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro N.) turned away two shots apiece in 28:19 and 31:41 respectively.
In the first period, Miller converted a free position shot (2:19) and scored on a pass from Swarthout (6:31) to give Catholic a 2-0 lead. Wood’s unassisted goal at 7:34 brought Rowan within one (2-1). The Cardinals had the next four goals for a 6-1 advantage at 13:45. Swarthout registered two goals, while Miller and Ciletti each had one.
Lubrano’s unassisted goal at 14:26 made the score, 6-2. Catholic was up, 8-2 following goals by Miller (15:00) and Laitner (20:35). Lubrano found the net on a feed by Wood at 23:19. Vogel (28:18) and Robinson (28:49) tallied one goal apiece. Sucharski’s goal with 26 seconds left brought Rowan within six (10-4) at the intermission.
Lubrano (30:43) and Wood (32:02) had back-to-back goals to open the second half. The Cardinals answered with eight consecutive goals for an 18-6 advantage. Ciletti recorded three goals (35:32, 38:11, 40:23), Miller had two (48:10, 50:31), while Brophy (38:48), Vogel (44:34) and Brady (47:18) all scored once. Blondina hit the net with 1:57 remaining.
Rowan travels to Montclair State University for a conference game on Wednesday, May 2 at 7 p.m.
