Rowan Scores Six Runs In The Seventh For 9-3 Win Over Johns Hopkins

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team rallied for six runs in the seventh inning for a 9-3 win over Johns Hopkins University on Tuesday afternoon.

The Profs, ranked 13th, are undefeated with a 7-0 record.  The Blue Jays are 1-2-1 on the season. Right-hander Ryan Peterson (sr. Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) earned the win in relief.  Peterson (1-0) threw two scoreless innings and did not allow a hit.  Righty Tyler Goldstein (so. Highland Park, IL/Highland Park) took the loss.  He (0-1) gave up four earned runs and four hits.  
 
Rowan right fielder Matt Hill (sr. Hamilton Square, NJ/Robbinsville) produced two hits (three at bats), three RBIs, one run scored and a double.  Shortstop Marc Magliaro (sr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) collected four hits (one double) in five trips to the plate and scored three runs.  Catcher Nick Turano (sr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) contributed with two hits (three at bats), two RBIs and one run scored.  First baseman Sean Kelly (jr. North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen) chipped in with one hit (four at bats) and two RBIs.  Third baseman Mark Benak (so. South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield) added two hits (five at bats) and two runs scored.

For Johns Hopkins, left fielder Scott Barrett (sr. Gladwyne, PA/The Haverford School) was two for three with two RBIs, one run scored and a double.  Center fielder Mike Musary (sr. Lake Orion, MI/Lake Orion) registered two hits in two at bats and scored one run.  Designated player Aaron Borenstein (sr. Scottsdale, AZ/Saguaro) had one hit (four at bats) and one RBI.  Pinch hitter Mike Denlinger (so. Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) and catcher Ryan Zakszeski (jr. Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) contributed with a double and a single respectively. 
 
The score was tied at three going into the bottom of the seventh inning.  Magliaro led off with a single and he advanced to third on Benak’s hit to right field.  Hill drove in Magliaro with a single to center field.  Benak crossed the plate on a single by Turano.  Kelly had a two RBI single to left field, scoring Hill and Turano.  Second baseman Rob Wilgus (sr. Woolwich, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) reached base on a fielder’s choice and designated player C.J. Szymczak (jr. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) went home.  Center fielder Felix Colarte (sr. North Bergen, NJ/North Bergen) advanced to third on the fielder’s choice and scored on an error.       

The Blue Jays went ahead 3-2 with two runs in the fourth inning.  Third baseman Chris Wilhelm (jr. Oceanside, NY/Oceanside) was hit by a pitch.  Musary walked with two outs.  Barrett drove in Wilhelm and Musary with a double to right center field.  The Profs tied the scored (3-3) with a RBI single by Turano in the fifth.  He drove in Benak who got on base with a single.

Rowan got on the scoreboard in the first inning.  Magliaro had a lead off single and came home on Hill’s double to right field.  In the third, both teams scored one run.  Borenstein had a RBI single that brought Barrett home.  Hill recorded a sacrifice fly, scoring Magliaro.              
Rowan travels to Georgia for its spring break trip to play LaGrange College on Saturday, March 10 at 2 p.m.
