GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s lacrosse team defeated Cabrini College, 20-11 in a nonconference game on Saturday afternoon.
The Profs improve to 4-5, while the Cavaliers have a 3-6 record. Attack Becca Wood (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill E.) led Rowan with seven goals and one assist. Midfielder Michelle Lubrano (sr. Delanco, NJ/Holy Cross) followed with five goals and one assist. She now has 101 career goals. Attack Vicky Sucharski (so. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) compiled two goals and one assist. Attacks Ellen Brigham (jr. Oakton, VA/Oakton) and Marissa Micciche (so. Kinnelon, NJ/Kinnelon) both found the net twice. Defender Lauren Callaghan (so. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) added one goal and one assist, while midfielder Shannon O’Brien (jr. Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) scored once. Midfielder Jamie Blondina (fr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) dished four assists.
For Cabrini, attack Lacie Doubet (fr. Swarthmore, PA/Ridley) collected three goals and one assist. Attack Melissa Scanzano (fr. Havertown, PA/Havertown) registered three goals. Midfielder Sarah Means (so. Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan) posted two goals and two assists. Midfielder Kellie Manoppello (so. King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion) contributed with two goals and defender Ali May (so. Chester Springs, PA/Downingtown E.) had one. Attack Christina Pasquariello (jr. Gladwyne, PA/Harriton) chipped in with one assist.
Rowan took 33 shots and Cabrini had 29. Profs’ goalie Kerry Pehnke (sr. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro N.) made 12 saves. Cavaliers’ goalie Janel Folkomer (so. Springfield, PA/Springfield (Delco)) stopped eight shots.
The Profs scored four straight goals to open the game. Lubrano (5:19, 10:19) hit the net twice, while Brigham (8:56) and Wood (13:05) each had one goal. May’s goal came at 14:42. The Profs went up, 7-1 following goals by Lubrano (16:03), Brigham (16:21) and Wood (16:44). Means (17:29) and Scanzano (19:10) both had a goal to cut the deficit to four (7-3). Rowan followed with goals by Lubrano (21:25), Micciche (24:20) and Sucharski (27:27) for a 10-3 lead. Manoppello (29:16) and Scanzano (29:33) scored one goal apiece to bring Cabrini within five (10-5) at the intermission.
At 31:26 in the second period, Sucharski recorded a goal and Callaghan had the assist. Manoppello answered with a goal 32 seconds later. Rowan compiled six consecutive goals to pull away, 17-6. Wood found the net three times (33:44, 34:47, 35:50), while Micciche (36:28), Callaghan (36:45) and O’Brien (41:05) all scored once. Scanzano (42:29) and Doubet (44:38) had back-to-back goals to make the score, 17-8.
Wood (45:01) and Doubet (46:05) exchanged goals. Wood’s final goal came at 50:54. Lubrano added a free position goal at 54:09 to extend the advantage to 11 (20-9). Doubet (58:16) and Means (59:46) both picked up a goal.
