Rowan Defeats Rutgers-Camden, 69-50 In Last Game of Regular Season

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s basketball team defeated conference opponent Rutgers-Camden, 69-50 in the last game of the regular season.

The Profs are 10-15 overall and they finished 4-9 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC).  Rowan is tied for third place in the conference’s South Division with Richard Stockton College.  The Profs will travel to the Ospreys for a play-in game on Thursday, February 16 at 7 p.m.  The winner advances to the first round of the NJAC Championship Tournament on Saturday, February 18.  Rutgers-Camden has a 13-12 record with a 2-11 conference mark.

Rowan had four players that scored in double figures.  Guard Alissa Lamey (sr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) led the way with 16 points and eight assists.  Forward Erin Farrell (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) contributed with 14 points while forward Lauren Gregg totaled 13 points and nine rebounds.  Center Kate Matthews (fr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) chipped in with 10 points.   

For Rutgers-Camden, forward Brittany Turner (sr. Bellevile, NJ/Queen of Peace) compiled 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.  Guard/forward Stephanie Deisley (sr. Riverside, NJ/Holy Cross) came off the bench for 12 points and guard Casey Crenny (jr. Blackwood, NJ/Camden Catholic) added 10.

The Profs started the second period with a five point advantage (29-24).  Gregg’s three-pointer made the score 35-26 at 18:55.  Turner pulled the Scarlet Raptors within five (35-30) after a basket at 17:11.  Rowan went up by 17 (49-32) after a 14-2 run that ended at 13:39.  Guard Chanelle Banta (sr. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergenfield) and Matthews registered five and four points respectively.  Lamey hit a three and Farrell added a basket in the run. 

Guard Ashley Waring’s (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) layup increased the lead to 19 points (57-38) with 10:09 remaining.  The Profs were up by 21 points (61-40) at 6:49 with a layup by Farrell.  The closest Rutgers-Camden came was 15 points (63-48) at 2:59 after two fouls shots from Turner.  Gregg followed with a jumper (2:50) and Lamey drained a three (2:05) for a 20 point advantage (68-48). 

In the first half, Rowan was ahead by seven points (15-8) after Farrell’s layup at 11:48.  The Scarlet Raptors cut the deficit to three (15-12) with baskets by Turner (11:32) and Deisley (10:12).  At 6:16, Farrell hit a jumper that pushed the lead back to seven (19-12).  Lamey nailed a three-pointer at 5:26 that made the score 22-14. 

Gregg’s basket at 2:52 gave the Profs’ an eight point advantage (27-19).  Turner converted two foul shots (2:05) and Crenny posted a three (1:28) to pull within three points (27-24).  Farrell had a layup (1:11) to end the half with a five point lead (29-24).
