CHESTER, PA – The Widener University women’s basketball team won 98-43 over Rowan University in a nonconference game on Saturday afternoon.
The Pride have an 8-2 record while the Profs are 3-7 overall. Guard Jennifer Egee (jr. Ridley Park, NJ/Ridley) led the way with 18 points off the bench. Guard Kristina Reiter (so. Sewell, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) contributed with 11 points while center Vanessa Hejnas (sr. Delran, NJ/Delran) and forward Brianna Wylie (fr. Mount Laurel, NJ/Lenape) added 10 apiece. Guard Ally Ferrucci (so. Vineland, NJ/Sacred Heart) chipped in with nine points, eight assists and four steals. Guard Kate Dellinger (sr. Wrightsville, PA/Eastern York) totaled nine points and nine rebounds.
For Rowan, guard Eyandra Molina (sr. Pleasantville, NJ/Washington Irving (NY)) scored a career-high 18 points. She also had five rebounds. Forward Erin Farrell (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had six points and center Stephanie Krauss (sr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) followed with five.
In the first half, the Profs trailed by five (13-8) at 15:20 after a three by Molina. Guard Lil Carney (sr. Narberth, PA/Lower Merion) nailed a three-pointer (14:43) and Ferrucci had a layup (13:58) for a 10 point advantage (18-8). Molina had a basket at 12:58 and the Profs trailed 26-12. Widener scored 13 straight points to lead by 27 (39-12) with 10:41 remaining. Colella produced five of the 13 points. The Pride were ahead 48-24 with 3:23 on the clock and ended the period with a 7-0 surge. Ferrucci had three foul shots and forward Sarah Engman (fr. Bryn Mawr, PA/Woodlynde) sank two and Reiter had a jumper.
Hejnas’ layup at 17:35 in the second half made the score 61-25. Widener had a 30 point lead (61-31) at 15:03 then tallied 12 unanswered points (73-31) in 2:40. Egee contributed with four points while guard Joanna Persiano (jr. Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) and Reiter each had three and Colella added two. Widener’s biggest lead of the game was 55 points, which was the final score 98-43.
Rowan ends the semester at Neumann University on Thursday, December 20 at 6 p.m.
