GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team won 5-2 over conference opponent William Paterson University on Saturday night. It was the last game of the regular season for both teams.
The Profs, ranked 15th, are 14-5 overall and they finished 4-2 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC). The Pioneers have a record of 8-11 with a 3-3 conference mark. Rowan will be the second seed in the NJAC Championship Tournament while William Paterson is the fourth seed. Montclair State University is the top seed and The College of New Jersey is seeded third.
Rowan forward Kellie Campbell (so. Clarks, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) scored two goals and had one assist. Back Erin Bernat (sr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) had two goals and forward Allison DiMenna (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) added one. Midfielders Marisa Schoepflin (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) and Marisa Marini (fr. Carneys Point, NJ/Padua Academy (DE)) and forward Karlee Henderson (so. Elmer, NJ/Woodstown) each chipped in with an assist.
Midfielder Jaclyn Bertos (jr. Rockaway, NJ/Morris Knolls) scored both goals for William Paterson. Forward Brianne Cox (jr. Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton Twp.) assisted on the two goals.
The Profs totaled 24 shots while the Pioneers had three. Goalie Jen Goldberg (sr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) registered the win for Rowan. Goalie Kellye Statz (jr. Robbinsville, NJ/Robbinsville) made fives for William Paterson.
The Pioneers got on the scoreboard first at 9:20. Bertos hit the left side of the cage with a pass from Cox. Campbell tied the score at 25:10 when she knocked in a cross to the left side by Henderson. Bernat’s first goal (29:33) came on a penalty stroke and Rowan was ahead 2-1 at the break.
In the second half, Campbell deflected Schoepflin’s shot at 41:40 for the third goal. Bertos tapped in Cox’s pass for the Pioneers’ second goal. DiMenna scored at 50:03 and Campbell had the assist. On a penalty corner, Marini was at the top of the circle and she sent the ball to Bernat on the left side who blasted at shot (51:35) into the William Paterson cage.
