ASTON, PA – The Rowan University field hockey team defeated Neumann University, 5-1 in a nonconference game on Thursday.
The Profs, ranked 15th, have a 13-5 record while the Knights are 3-13 on the season. Back Erin Bernat (sr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) led the way with two goals and one assist. Midfielder Marisa Schoepflin (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.), back Kelsey O’Neill (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and forward Kellie Campbell (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) each contributed with one goal. Midfielder Marisa Marini (fr. Carneys Point, NJ/Padua Academy (DE)) registered two assists while O’Neill had one.
Forward Ellyn Jones (sr. Wilmington, DE/Wilmington Christian) scored Neumann’s goal with an assist from forward Kenya Woods (fr. Salem, NJ/Salem). Profs’ goalie Jen Goldberg (sr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) was in the cage for 41:50 and goalie Steph Colombo (jr. Moorestown, NJ/Camden Catholic) made two saves in 28:10. Knights’ goalie Nicole Galvin (fr. Sayreville, NJ/Sayreville War Mem.) stopped 10 shots. Rowan amassed 21 shots while Neumann only had four.
Rowan got on the scoreboard at 14:39 with a goal by Bernat on a penalty corner with an assist by Marini. Schoepflin found the back of the cage at 31:13 with a pass from O’Neill. The Profs were ahead 2-0 at the break.
Bernat’s second goal came at 38:04 and Marini had the assist. At 41:57, O’Neill scored and Bernat assisted. Jones spoiled the shutout at 42:33. Campbell scored (49:13) with a penalty stroke.
Rowan hosts William Paterson University on Saturday, October 27 at 7 p.m. It is the Profs’ last game of the regular season before the conference tournament starts on Wednesday, October 31.
