UNION, NJ – Forward Stephanie Soares scored two goals to give Kean University a 2-0 upset over Rowan University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday.
The Cougars improve to 8-9 overall and 2-3 in the conference. The Profs, ranked 13th, have a 12-5 record with a 3-2 NJAC mark.
Soares (jr. Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) gave Kean a 1-0 lead at 12:02 in the first period. Back Kelly Bachovchin (sr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) took a shot that was saved by Profs’ goalie Jen Goldberg (sr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson). Soares knocked in the rebound. At 26:42, Soares hit the back of the cage for her second goal.
Kean took 11 shots and Rowan had three. Cougars’ goalie Erin Langan (jr. Millburn, NJ/Millburn) made two saves. Goldberg stopped three shots in the Profs’ cage.
Rowan travels to Neumann University for a nonconference game on Thursday, October 25 at 4 p.m.
