Rowan Falls to Number One Ranked Salisbury, 2-1

GLASSBORO, NJ  – The Rowan University field hockey team lost to number one ranked Salisbury University, 2-1 on Wednesday night.

The Sea Gulls are undefeated with an 11-0 record.  The Profs are 10-4 overall and they are 16th in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Poll.

Salisbury scored its first goal on a penalty corner as time expired at the end of the first half.  Forward Melissa Slocum (sr. Salisbury, MD/Wicomico) took the corner and passed the ball to midfielder Summer Washburn (so. Andover, MA/Phillips Academy) who was on the left side of the circle.  Washburn’s shot went in to a group of players in front of the cage.  Midfielder Emily Voshell (jr. Viola, DE/Lake Forest) slapped the ball in for the goal.

In the second half, forward Jessica Crew (fr. Sudlersville, MD/Queen Anne’s) scored at 55:38 for a 2-0 advantage.  Crew knocked in a pass from the left side by forward Karen Cindea (so. Spring Lake, NJ/Manasquan).  Forward Kellie Campbell (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) recorded Rowan’s goal at 63:29 with an assist from midfielder Marisa Marini (fr. Carneys Point, NJ/Padua Academy (DE)). 

Salisbury ended the game with seven shots while Rowan had five.  Goalie Rachel Clewer (so. Elkton, MD/North East) got the win in the Sea Gulls’ cage.  For the Profs, Jen Goldberg (sr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) made one save.

Next, Rowan hosts sixth ranked The College of New Jersey on Saturday, October 10 in a 1 p.m. conference game.
