Rowan Wins 75-51 At The College of Mount St. Vincent

RIVERDALE, NY – The Rowan University women’s basketball team won 75-51 at the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Monday night. 

The Profs improve to 7-11 on the season while the Dolphins have a 4-11 record.  Forward Lauren Gregg (sr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) led the way with 17 points and 12 rebounds.  Forward Lauren Creel (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) totaled 15 points, five boards and five assists.  Guards Alissa Lamey (sr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) and Kaitlin Schullstrom (fr. Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) each chipped in with 11 points.  Lamey also grabbed a career high 10 rebounds.  Guard Chanelle Banta (sr. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergenfield) collected nine points, five rebounds, six steals and one blocked shot.

For the Dolphins, forward Kara McNish (sr. Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne) post game highs of 19 points and 17 boards.  Guard Shannon Koch (so. Kings Park, NY/Kings Park) added 10 points while forward Brittany Griffin (sr. Suffern, NY/Albertus Magnus) registered 12 rebounds.

In the first half, Rowan was ahead by five points (13-8) after a three-pointer (12:48) by Lamey and a jumper (12:23) from Creel.  Lamey’s three at 10:26 made the score 18-10.  McNish followed with a layup (10:01) and a foul shot (8:07) to pull within five (18-13).  Schullstrom had a basket (7:54) and guard Ashley Waring (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Pennsauken) hit a three (6:17) to increase the lead to 10 (23-13).  Mount Saint Vincent answered with 10 straight points to tie the score at 23 with 2:56 remaining.  Koch and McNish scored five and four points respectively while guard Andrea Sinaly (so. Middle Village, NY/Archbishop Molloy) added a free throw.  The Profs went back up by six points (29-23) at 1:19.  Schullstrom produced four points while Waring and Banta each had one.  Sinaly (0:43) and Gregg (0:17) each exchanged jumpers.  Center Kelly Fraser (fr. Staten Island, NY/Tottenville) made the last basket of the period (0:01) and the Dolphins trailed 31-27.  McNish ended the half with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Rowan started the second stanza with a 10-0 run to lead by 14 points (41-27) at 15:21.  Gregg and Creel scored four points apiece and Lamey had two.  The Profs were up 45-29 after a layup by Gregg at 14:21.  The Dolphins pulled within 11 points (45-34) at 12:17 after guard Tanisha Montague’s (so. Brooklyn, NY/Abraham Lincoln) jump shot.  Lamey posted a three-point play at 9:43 that made the score 53-37.  Guard Sara Kluth (so. Lynbrook, NY/St. Mary’s) converted two free throws (7:42) to cut the deficit to nine (53-44). 

With 6:28 left, Rowan was ahead 58-48.  The Profs pulled away with 12 unanswered points that stretched the advantage to 22 (70-48) at 2:58.  Gregg and Creel each had three points in the surge.  Banta hit a jumper (1:05) and made a free throw (0:36).  Guard Jade Bonder (fr. Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown) followed with a layup (0:16) and Rowan had its biggest lead of the game, 25 points (75-50).  Griffin sank the second of two foul shots (0:15) to end the game.
 
Rowan plays at conference opponent Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, January 25 at 6 p.m.
