Rowan Suffers 1-0 Loss at Centenary in Second Day of Tournament

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ – The Centenary College women’s soccer team won 1-0 over Rowan University in the second round of its two-day tournament.

Prior to Rowan’s game, third ranked Otterbein College beat Drew University, 3-1. In the first round on Friday, Otterbein had a 1-0 win over Rowan while Centenary defeated Drew University, 4-1. Centenary and Otterbein both finished 2-0 in the tournament.

Midfielder Tatiana Kingston (sr. Mountainside, NJ/Governor Livingston) scored the winning goal at 16:32. She hit the top right of the goal after a free kick from 30 yards out.

The Cyclones (2-0) ended the game with eight total shots while the Profs (0-2) compiled 17. In the Centenary goal, Alyssa Hackelberg (jr. Randolph, NJ/North Hunterdon) made three saves for the shutout. Rowan goalkeeper Maria Dorris (jr. Mantua, NJ/Clearview Reg.) had one stop.

Four of the Prof players were named to the All-Tournament Team. They included back Kayla Leahey (fr. Keansburg, NJ/Warwick Valley (NY)), midfielder Christie Fink (sr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert), back Leah Carney (sr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) and back Linda Sierra (sr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee).

Next week, Rowan hosts Neumann University in the home opener on Saturday, September 10 at 1 p.m.
