GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team came from behind for a 5-4 win over Haverford College in the home opener on Saturday. The 15th ranked Profs are 2-0 on the season.
Midfielder Ashley Adams (sr. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) scored two goals, including the tying and game winner. Forward Rachael Dix (sr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) contributed with one goal and one assist. Midfielder Erin Bernat (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) added two assists and forward Marisa Schoepflin (jr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) had one. Forward Julie Cairone (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and back Amy McKeever (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) each scored once.
For Haverford (0-1), forward Mary Hobbs (jr. Wilmington, DE/Tower Hill School) registered two goals while midfielder Margaret Selsor (sr. Wilmington, DE/The Tatnall School) and forward Bryn Bissey (so. Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh) had one apiece. Forward Juliana Morgan-Trostle (sr. Amherst, MA/Amherst) collected an assist.
The Fords edged the Profs in total shots, 25-24. In the Haverford cage, goalie Sydney Hyder (jr. Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) made eight saves. Rowan goalie Lisa Apt (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) stopped nine shots.
After trailing 2-0, Haverford started the second half with four unanswered goals. Hobbs scored the first two at 36:58 and 49:14. The first one came on a rebound after a save and the second went in the left side of the cage. Selsor put the Fords up 3-2 at 50:20. Her first shot was saved by Apt then she put back the rebound for the goal. Bissey followed 4:10 later with a goal on a pass from Morgan-Trostle.
Cairone started the come back at 55:56 when she tipped in a shot by Schoepflin. The Profs’ tying (58:47) and winning (63:05) goals came on penalty corners. Both times, Adams deflected in shots by Bernat.
In the first period, Rowan went ahead 2-0. Dix scored the first goal at 2:57 with a blast to the left side of the cage. She then had a pass to McKeever in front who tucked the ball around Hyder into the lower right corner at 23:02.
Next week, Rowan hosts Ursinus College on Wednesday, September 7 at 7 p.m.
