Rowan Wins 8-1 Over Stevenson

GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Rachael Dix scored four goals to lead the Rowan University field hockey team over Stevenson University, 8-1 in a nonconference game on Saturday night. It was the Profs’ fifth straight win.

The Profs, ranked seventh, have a 7-2 record while the Mustangs are 3-6 overall. Dix (sr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) also had one assist. Midfielder Ashley Adams (sr. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) contributed with two goals and two assists. Forward Julie Cairone (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) added one goal and two assists. Forward Kayla Bruhn (fr. Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill W.) chipped in with one goal and back Amy McKeever (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) had an assist.  Midfielder Leigh Willing (so. Princess Anne, MD/Holy Grove Christian) scored the lone goal for Stevenson.

Rowan accumulated 30 total shots while Stevenson had five. Profs' goalie Jen Goldberg (jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) made two saves in the first half. Goalie Lisa Apt (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) played the second period. The Mustangs’ goalie Kelsi Zimmerman (jr. Odenton, MD/Arundel) turned away 13 shots.

Willing put Stevenson on the scoreboard first 42 seconds into the game. Cairone had the tying goal 1:07 later with an assist from McKeever. Adams hit the cage at 8:21 and Dix had the assist. Adams picked up the assist on the third goal at 8:45 and Dix scored her first of the game. Dix’s second goal came at 16:34 unassisted. Adams had the final goal of the period (22:36) with a pass from Cairone.

In the second half, Dix started the scoring at 42:37 with a pass from Adams. Dix scored her fourth goal at 54:04 and Cairone registered her second assist. With 1:33 remaining, Bruhn recorded her first collegiate goal unassisted.

Next week, Rowan travels to Eastern University on Thursday, September 29 for a 4 p.m. contest.
