GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Rachael Dix scored the game-winning goal with 7:09 remaining in the second period to give Rowan University a 3-2 victory over Catholic University in a nonconference game on Saturday afternoon.

Catholic led 2-1 after the first half. Dix (sr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) tied the score (2-2) with an unassisted goal at 43:49. She had the game-winner when she deflected a shot by back Amy McKeever (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) into the cage.

The Profs improve to 5-2, while the Cardinals have a 4-1 record. In this week’s Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Coaches Poll, Rowan and Catholic were ranked 10th and 11th respectively.

Dix finished with two goals and one assist. Forward Julie Cairone (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) found the cage once and McKeever added an assist. Backs Kelsey O’Neill (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and Aubrey Fisher (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) and midfielder Erin Bernat (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) each had one defender save.

For the Cardinals, midfielder/forward Kim Hermann (fr. Havertown, PA/Country Day Sacred Heart) scored two goals. Midfielder/back Maura Campbell (fr. Media, PA/Archbishop John Carroll) picked up one assist.

Catholic took 25 shots and Rowan had 14. Profs’ goalie Jen Goldberg (jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) made 11 saves. Goalie Megan Comunale (so. Hammonton, NJ/Bishop Eustace) stopped seven shots for the Cardinals.

In the first period, Cairone started the scoring with a goal at 6:18. Dix blasted a shot off a penalty corner and Cairone deflected it into the cage. Hermann tied the game (1-1) with an unassisted goal off a rebound at 15:07. Her second goal came with 4:15 left. Campbell passed the ball in front and Hermann tipped it in.

Rowan travels to Ramapo College for a New Jersey Athletic Conference game on Tuesday, September 20 at 4 p.m.
