Hershey's Overtime Goal Gives Rowan A 9-8 Win Over Drew

GLASSBORO, NJ – Attack Leah Hershey scored with 1:27 remaining in the first overtime to give the Rowan University women’s lacrosse team a 9-8 victory over Drew University on Saturday.

The second half began with Rowan leading, 5-3. Drew scored four straight goals to go ahead, 7-5 with 17:41 left in regulation. Midfielder Lindsay Fry (sr. Mountain Lakes, NJ/Morristown Beard) tallied three goals and midfielder Sloane Coles (sr. The Plains, VA/Foxcroft School) had one. Profs’ midfielder Alli Dickey (sr. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) cut the deficit to one (7-6) with an unassisted goal at 50:36. Coles’ unassisted goal at 52:24 extended the advantage to two (8-6).

Rowan had back-to-back goals to tie the game. Attack Caitlin Ravel (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) found the net on a pass from attack Trish Harrington (sr. Mahwah, NJ/Suffern (NY)) at 53:29 and midfielder Michelle Lubrano (jr. Delanco, NJ/Holy Cross) registered an unassisted goal at 55:27. Hershey (sr. Glen Rock, PA/Susquehannock) put in a feed from Lubrano at 64:33 in overtime to give Rowan the win.

The Profs improve to 5-4, while the Rangers have a 4-7 record. Lubrano finished the game with two goals and two assists. Hershey scored twice, while Dickey had one goal and one assist. Attacks Ellen Brigham (so. Oakton, VA/Oakton) and Vicky Sucharski (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson), defender Nicole Valianti (sr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) and Ravel all collected one goal. Harrington dished one assist. For the Rangers, Cole and Fry compiled four goals apiece.

Rowan took 34 shots, while Drew had 21. Goalie Lindsay Barrie (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) made nine saves in the Profs’ net. Rangers’ goalie Rachel Hanley (sr. Randolph, NJ/Randolph) turned away 10 shots.

Brigham put Rowan up, 1-0 with an unassisted goal at the 59 second mark in the first period. Hershey found the net on a pass from Dickey at 2:13. Coles (12:27) and Fry (14:59) had back-to-back unassisted goals to tie the game at two. Coles scored again at 15:57, but Valianti answered with a goal at 18:32. Sucharski converted a free position shot at 24:22. Lubrano recorded an unassisted goal with 1:51 left in the half to make the score, 5-3 at the intermission.
