GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team had an 11-2 victory over Rutgers-Camden in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday afternoon.

The Profs are 25-8-1 overall and 12-3 in the conference. Rowan is ranked 20th in the latest American Baseball Coaches Association/Collegiate Baseball Poll. The Scarlet Raptors have an 11-20 record with a 1-12 NJAC mark.

Right-hander Mike Swietanski (sr. Woodbury, NJ/West Deptford) was the winning pitcher (6-1). He went six innings, allowing one earned run on two hits. Swietanski struck out nine batters. Righty Ryan Peterson (jr. Belle Mead, NJ/Montgomery) went three innings for his third save of the season. He gave up one unearned run on one hit. Right-hander Dan Fimiani (sr. Pittsgrove, NJ/A.P. Schalick) took the loss (1-3). He surrendered six earned runs in five innings.

Rowan right fielder Kevin O’Brien (sr. Pennsville, NJ/Pennsville Mem.) went three for three with two RBIs. Left fielder Scott Weaver (sr. Ledgewood, NJ/Roxbury) followed with two hits (three at bats), three runs scored, one RBI and a triple. Second baseman Rob Wilgus (jr. Woolwich, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) registered two hits (three at bats), three RBIs, one run scored and a double. First baseman Matt Hill (jr. Hamilton Square, NJ/Robbinsville) compiled two hits (three at bats), one RBI and one run scored.

Center fielder Matt Citro (sr. Bloomsbury, NJ/Phillipsburg) produced two hits in four trips to the plate, two RBIs, one run scored and a triple. Shortstop Marc Magliaro (sr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) was three for five with two runs scored and two doubles. Catcher Nick Turano (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) posted one hit (four at bats), two RBIs and one run scored. Designated hitter C.J. Szymczak (so. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) and third baseman Brad Woodend (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) tallied one hit and one run scored apiece.

For the Scarlet Raptors, third baseman John Santilli (jr. Folsom, NJ/St. Joseph (Hammonton)) collected one hit (four at bats), one RBI and a double. Designated hitter Jon Hydock (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) had one RBI, while right fielder Jon Siswo (jr. Port Reading, NJ/Woodbridge) and catcher Joe DiMento (so. Turnersville, NJ/Washington Twp.) both scored once. Shortstop Joe Merlino (jr. Pine Hill, NJ/Overbrook) added a double.

The Profs took a 2-0 lead with one run in the first and second innings. O’Brien knocked in Magliaro with a single in the first. Weaver walked in the second and later scored on Wilgus’ sacrifice fly to center field. In the fourth, Citro ripped a two run triple to center field that plated Wilgus and Hill.

Rowan tacked on two runs in the fifth for a 6-0 advantage. With the bases loaded, Wilgus hit a two RBI ground-rule double over the right center field fence. In the top of the sixth, DiMento led off with a walk and later came home on a sacrifice fly by Hydock to make the score, 6-1.

After a 53 minute lightning delay, the Profs had four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Turano hit a single through the right side that knocked in Magliaro. O’Brien’s single up the middle drove in Woodend. Turano came home on a triple by Weaver and Hill followed with a RBI single. In the seventh, Citro singled through the right side and advanced to second on a passed ball. He moved to third on Magliaro’s double and crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Turano. Rutgers-Camden got one run in the top of the ninth. Siswo reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on Santilli’s double to left field.

The two teams play again on Friday, April 29 at Campbell’s Field in Camden, NJ at 3:30 p.m.
