SCRANTON, PA – The Rowan University women’s lacrosse team had a 9-6 victory over the University of Scranton on Saturday. The game was called with 5:23 remaining in the second period due to a fifth lightning delay.
Rowan improves to 7-5, while Scranton has a 9-3 record. The Profs snapped the Royals’ nine game win streak. Attack Vicky Sucharski (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) led Rowan with three goals. Attack Caitlin Ravel (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) found the net twice. Midfielder Alli Dickey (sr. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) tallied one goal and two assists. Attack Trish Harrington (sr. Mahwah, NJ/Suffern (NY)) and midfielder Michelle Lubrano (jr. Delanco, NJ/Holy Cross) contributed with one goal and one assist apiece. Defender Lauren Callaghan (fr. Wayne, NJ/Wayne Valley) added one goal.
For the Royals, attack Kerry Sullivan (fr. Oceanport, NJ/Shore Reg.) and defender Katie Slade (sr. Buckingham, PA/Central Bucks E.) both scored two goals. Attack Caroline Pryor (sr. Robbinsville, NJ/Notre Dame) collected one goal and three assists. Attack Deana Giorno (so. Warrington, PA/Central Bucks S.) chipped in with one goal.
Profs’ goalie Lindsay Barrie (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) made eight saves. Goalie Kathleen Smart (so. Hatboro, PA/Archbishop Wood) turned away eight shots for Scranton.
Sucharski recorded an unassisted goal 54 seconds into the game to give Rowan a 1-0 lead. Sullivan (4:32) and Giorno (4:54) had back-to-back goals to put the Royals ahead, 2-1. Ravel answered with an unassisted goal at 11:29. Dickey found the net at 15:11 and the Profs were up, 3-2. Slade and Sullivan registered goals at 16:17 and 18:44 respectively for a 4-3 advantage. Rowan closed out the half with four straight goals, making the score, 7-4 at the intermission. Harrington (22:20), Callaghan (25:23), Lubrano (26:03) and Ravel (26:57) all collected one goal.
In the second period, Slade put back a feed from Pryor at 37:51 to cut the deficit to two (7-5). Pryor followed with an unassisted goal at 42:16 and the Royals trailed by one (7-6). Sucharski had goals at 50:39 and 53:45 before the game was called.
Rowan travels to conference opponent Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, April 20 at 4 p.m.
