LANCASTER, PA – The Franklin & Marshall College women’s lacrosse team defeated Rowan University, 13-10 in a nonconference game on Wednesday night.

The Diplomats, tied for third in this week’s Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Poll, improve to 2-0. The Profs have a 1-2 record.

Attack Lauren Selawski (so. Ellicott City, MD/Notre Dame Prep) led the way with four goals and three assists. Midfielder Cat Serpe (jr. Essex Falls, NJ/West Essex) followed with two goals and two assists. Midfielder Maggie Mae Shields (so. Bryn Mawr, PA/Baldwin School) tallied two goals and one assist, while midfielder Katie Delaney (jr. Silver Spring, MD/Academy of the Holy Cross) found the net twice. Midfielder Lauren Ehrhardt (jr. Westbury, NY/Kellenberg Central) collected one goal and one assist. Attacks Caroline Krohn (fr. Baltimore, MD/Towson) and Erin Dunne (jr. North Brunswick, NJ/North Brunswick Twp.) both scored once and defender Anne Brockmyer (jr. Bel Air, MD/John Carroll) dished one assist.

For Rowan, midfielder Michelle Lubrano (jr. Delanco, NJ/Holy Cross) registered three goals. Midfielder Alli Dickey (sr. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) added two goals and one assist. Attack Ellen Brigham (so. Oakton, VA/Oakton) and defender Nicole Valianti (sr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) posted two goals apiece and attack Vicky Sucharski (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) had one.

The Profs took 29 shots and the Diplomats had 22. Franklin & Marshall goalie Kelsey Hoffman (fr. Arlington, MA/Buckingham Browne & Nichols) made seven saves. Goalie Lindsay Barrie (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) stopped four shots for Rowan.

Krohn’s unassisted goal at 1:01 in the first period gave the Diplomats a 1-0 advantage. Rowan had two straight goals by Dickey (3:53) and Brigham (6:00) to go ahead, 2-1. Selawski’s goal at 7:26 tied the game at two. Brigham converted a free position shot at 13:52, but Shields answered with an unassisted goal at 17:35.

After a goal by Lubrano at 19:17, Franklin & Marshall scored three straight to take a 6-4 lead. Serpe recorded goals at 19:35 and 20:00, while Dunne added a goal at 21:18. Dickey had an unassisted goal at 21:46 and Rowan trailed by one (6-5). Two consecutive goals by Delaney (24:25) and Selawski (24:58) put the Diplomats up, 8-5 at halftime.

Franklin & Marshall opened the second period with goals by Ehrhardt (41:25) and Selawski (43:15) to stretch the advantage to five (10-5). Sucharski found the net on a pass from Dickey at 43:30, but Selawski scored her fourth goal nine seconds later. Valianti had an unassisted goal at 46:34. Delaney scored on a feed from Serpe at 50:02 to extend the lead to five (12-7). Valianti netted a free position shot at 55:30 and Rowan was down by four (12-8). Selawski passed the ball to Shields for the Diplomats’ final goal with 1:24 left to play. Lubrano had back-to-back goals with 38 and 10 seconds remaining to end the scoring.

Rowan travels to top ranked Salisbury University on Wednesday, March 16 at 4 p.m.
