HOBOKEN, NJ – Ninth ranked Stevens Institute of Technology had a 13-7 win over visiting Rowan University on Saturday.
The Ducks have a 5-1 record, while the Profs fall to 2-4. Stevens was led by midfielder Christine Smith (sr. E. Northport, NY/Northport) with five goals and one assist. Attack Jenna Scheibling (jr. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) totaled three goals and two assists. Attacks Michelle Buonacuore (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) and Pamela Loria (sr. New Providence, NJ/New Providence) registered two goals and one assist apiece. Attack Leah Wasserman (sr. Monmouth Beach, NJ/Shore Reg.) added one goal and one assist.
For Rowan, midfielder Michelle Lubrano (jr. Delanco, NJ/Holy Cross) compiled three goals and two assists. Midfielder Alli Dickey (sr. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) and attack Trish Harrington (sr. Mahwah, NJ/Suffern (NY)) both posted one goal and one assist. Attack Leah Hershey (sr. Glen Rock, PA/Susquehannock) and defender Nicole Valianti (sr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) each found the net once.
The Ducks took 29 shots, while the Profs had 20. Stevens’ goalie Melanie Welcome (fr. Winsted, CT/Ethel Walker) made six saves. Goalie Lindsay Barrie (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) stopped nine shots in 47:29 for Rowan. Goalie Kerry Pehnke (jr. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro N.) was in the net for 12:31.
Stevens started the game with eight straight goals. Scheibling and Loria had unassisted goals at :56 and 3:02 respectively. Scheibling scored her second goal at 13:08 and Smith followed with two goals at 16:39 and 19:59. Wasserman added a goal at 20:32. Smith’s third goal came at 23:31 and Buonacuore found the net on a feed from Smith at 27:43. Hershey had a goal on a pass from Lubrano with 1:09 left in the period to make the score, 8-1 at halftime.
Smith (32:14) and Buonacuore (33:18) had back-to-back goals to open the second period. Lubrano scored two consecutive goals at 39:21 and 45:21 to cut the deficit to seven (10-3). Scheibling got her third goal at 48:22 and Loria picked up the assist. Dickey converted a free position shot at 49:04 and Lubrano had her third goal at 50:41. Harrington recorded a goal at 52:21 and Valianti found the net at 53:18 to make the score, 11-7. Smith (53:51) and Loria (57:25) each had a goal to close out the scoring.
Rowan travels to Cabrini College on Tuesday, March 29 at 4:30 p.m.
