GLASSBORO, NJ – The Haverford College baseball team defeated Rowan University, 4-1 in a nonconference game on Friday afternoon.
The Fords improve to 14-2 overall, while the Profs have a 9-5 record. Right-hander Brett Cohen (fr. Rockville Centre, NY/South Side) pitched 6.1 innings for the win (1-1). He allowed one run on seven hits. Righty Dan Hochberg (sr. McLean, VA/Langley) was on the mound for the final 2.2 for his first save of the season. Left-hander Curtis Arsi (jr. Washington Twp., NJ/Westwood Reg.) took the loss (3-1). He threw 6.1 innings, allowing four earned runs on four hits. Arsi struck out a season-high 12 batters. He had a no-hitter through six innings.
Catcher Jeremy Zoll (jr. Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) led the Fords with two hits (three at bats), one RBI, one run scored and a double. Right fielder Bobby Bailey (sr. Mt. Kisco, NY/Fox Lane) went one for four with two RBIs and one run scored. Center fielder Matt Liscovitz (so. Brunswick, ME/Brunswick) collected one hit (four at bats) and one RBI. Shortstop Charlie Carluccio (sr. W. Windsor, NJ/W. Windsor-Plainsboro N.) and third baseman Mike Galetta (sr. Merion, PA/The Haverford School) both had one hit and one run scored.
For Rowan, left fielder Scott Weaver (sr. Ledgewood, NJ/Roxbury) and catcher Nick Turano (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) each registered two hits in four at bats. Shortstop Marc Magliaro (jr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) was one for five with one RBI. First baseman Matt Hill (jr. Hamilton Square, NJ/Robbinsville) scored once.
All the runs were scored in the seventh inning. In the top half, Carluccio led off with a single to left field, which broke up the no-hitter. Galetta ripped a single through the left side and Carluccio moved to third. After Galetta stole second, Bailey hit a two run single up the middle. Zoll doubled to left center field and Bailey crossed the plate. Liscovitz knocked in Zoll with a single to right center field. In the bottom of the inning, Hill walked and advanced to second on designated hitter C.J. Szymczak’s (so. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) single. Center fielder Matt Citro (sr. Bloomsbury, NJ/Phillipsburg) laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third. After third baseman Brad Woodend (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) walked to load the bases, Magliaro grounded out scoring Hill from third.
