GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s lacrosse team had a 13-6 victory over Ursinus College in a nonconference game on Thursday evening.
The Profs improve to 2-3, while the Bears have a 3-4 record. Rowan was led by midfielder Michelle Lubrano (jr. Delanco, NJ/Holy Cross) with four goals and two assists. Attack Vicky Sucharski (fr. Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) totaled three goals and four assists. Attack Leah Hershey (sr. Glen Rock, PA/Susquehannock) registered two goals and one assist. Attack Ellen Brigham (so. Oakton, VA/Oakton) and defender Nicole Valianti (sr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) each found the net twice. Midfielder Alli Dickey (sr. Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) and attack Trish Harrington (sr. Mahwah, NJ/Suffern (NY)) both picked up one assist.
For Ursinus, attack Lindsey Urban (sr. Doylestown, PA/Central Bucks E.) and midfielder Alyssa Thren (jr. Barto, PA/Upper Perkiomen) compiled two goals apiece. Midfielder Allison Furman (sr. Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) and attack Lauren Garganio (so. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) each tallied one goal, while attack Emily Diehl (jr. Lebanon, NJ/Voorhees) collected one assist.
Rowan took 34 shots and Ursinus had 20. Goalie Lindsay Barrie (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) made nine saves in the Profs’ net. Goalie Emma Bacharach (sr. Lancaster, PA/J.P. McCaskey) stopped four shots in the first half for the Bears. Goalie Jackie Kimmel (so. Hatboro, PA/Hatboro-Horsham) turned away three shots in 16:43 and Riley Pembroke (fr. Great Falls, VA/Langley) had seven saves in the final 13:17.
The game was tied (4-4) at the intermission. Rowan opened the second period with nine straight goals to go ahead, 13-4 with 8:09 remaining. Sucharski posted three goals, while Brigham, Hershey and Lubrano all found the net twice. With three minutes left, Furman recorded an unassisted goal. Thren added a goal with 1:15 on the clock.
In the first half, Ursinus took a 2-0 lead. Urban scored on a free position shot at 5:56. She got her second goal at 7:28 on a feed from Diehl. Valianti’s first goal at 18:26 brought the Profs within one (2-1). Lubrano had back-to-back goals at 20:42 and 23:27 to give Rowan a 3-2 advantage. Garganio tied the game (3-3) with an unassisted goal at 28:17. Thren’s goal with 57 seconds left put Ursinus up, 4-3. Valianti’s unassisted goal with six seconds remaining made the score, 4-4 at halftime.
Rowan travels to Stevens Institute of Technology on Saturday, March 26 at 1 p.m.
