GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University baseball team defeated York College (PA), 6-0 in a nonconference game on Tuesday afternoon.
Rowan has a 9-4 record, while York is 4-12. Right-hander Mike Swietanski (sr. Woodbury, NJ/West Deptford) pitched six scoreless innings for the win (2-1). He scattered five hits and struck out seven hitters. Righty Brandon Ullom (jr. S. Plainfield, NJ/S. Plainfield) took the loss (0-1). He surrendered one earned run in two innings.
Profs’ first baseman Matt Hill (jr. Hamilton Square, NJ/Robbinsville) went three for four with two RBIs, one run scored and a double. Left fielder Scott Weaver (sr. Ledgewood, NJ/Roxbury) registered two hits (three at bats), one RBI and one run scored. Designated hitter C.J. Szymczak (so. Maple Shade, NJ/Maple Shade) was one for one with two RBIs. Shortstop Marc Magliaro (jr. Monroe Twp., NJ/Monroe Twp.) produced one hit (four at bats) and one run scored, while catcher Nick Turano (jr. Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) scored twice.
For the Spartans, second baseman Kyle Cook (sr. Pylesville, MD/North Harford) collected two hits in four trips to the plate. Catcher Justin Cohen (so. Severn, MD/Old Mill), right fielder Joe Doyle (sr. Stewartstown, PA/Red Lion), shortstop Rob Klinck (sr. Stanhope, NJ/Lenape Valley Reg.) and third baseman Colin Porter (fr. Hanover, PA/South Western) all had one hit.
Rowan went ahead, 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning. Szymczak drove in Turano with a single to right center field. Prior, Turano reached base with a walk. In the third, Magliaro was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Second baseman Brandon Winkler (jr. Glendora, NJ/Paul VI) and Turano walked to load to the bases with one out. Weaver ripped a single that plated Magliaro. Hill singled through the right side of the infield and Turano and Winkler came home. Weaver crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly by Szymczak. The Profs’ final run came in the seventh inning. Hill reached base with a double to right center field. He later scored on an error with Magliaro at bat.
