SALISBURY, MD – The Rowan University women’s lacrosse team lost at number one ranked Salisbury University, 15-3 on Wednesday.
The Sea Gulls are the defending national champion and they are undefeated with an 8-0 record. The Profs drop to 1-3 on the season.
Salisbury had five players that scored two goals apiece. Midfielders Allie Wheatley (jr. Cambridge, MD/Salisbury School), Aileen McCausland (sr. Phoenix, MD/Hereford), Carrie Bray (jr. Rockville, MD/Wootton), Lauren Feusahrens (so. Solomons Island, MD/St. Mary’s Ryken) and Shelby Nemecek (fr. Eldersburg, MD/Liberty) each contributed with two goals. Attack Katie Bollhorst (so. Severna Park, MD/St. Mary’s) totaled five assists.
Midfielder Morgan Illian (sr. Salisbury, MD/Parkside) registered one goal and one assist. Midfielders Alyssa Fowler (jr. Odenton, MD/Arundel), Roxanne Raab (so. Fallston, MD/Fallston), Amanda Holsclaw (jr. Abingdon, MD/Edgewood) and attack Logan Bilderback (sr. Arnold, MD/Broadneck) added one goal apiece. Attack Maggie Roundy (so. Ijamsville, MD/Urbana) had one assist.
Salisbury totaled 33 shots while Rowan had 13. Goalie Julie Ann Caulfield (sr. Drexel Hill, PA/Upper Darby) played the first half in the Sea Gulls’ net and stopped two shots. Goalies Ashton Wheatley (fr. Cambridge, MD/Salisbury School) and Caity Coleman (so. South Huntington, NY/Walt Whitman) combined for three saves in the second period. Ashton Wheatley made two saves in 20:46. Coleman had one save in the final 9:14. For the Profs, Lindsay Barrie (fr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) was in goal for 20:44 and turned away four shots. Goalie Kerry Pehnke (jr. West Windsor, NJ/West Windsor-Plainsboro N.) registered eight saves in 39:16.
Rowan attack Leah Hershey (sr. Glen Rock, PA/Susquehannock) scored two goals. Midfielder Michelle Lubrano (jr. Delanco, NJ/Holy Cross) tallied one goal and one assist while attack Caitlin Ravel (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) had one assist.
Salisbury was ahead 11-0 after the first half. Allie Wheatley, Bray, McCausland and Feusahrens each scored twice. Bilderback, Illian and Fowler had one goal apiece. In the second stanza, Hershey put the Profs on the scoreboard at 31:56 and Ravel had the assist. The Sea Gulls followed with four straight goals to lead 15-1 with 8:48 remaining. Nemecek contributed with two goals while Raab and Holsclaw each had one. Lubrano had an unassisted goal at 57:15. Hershey scored her second goal on a pass from Lubrano with 1:15 left.
Next week, Rowan plays at home on Thursday, March 24 against Ursinus College at 4 p.m.
