GLASSBORO, NJ – The College of New Jersey football team defeated Rowan University, 7-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday afternoon.
It was the final game of the season for both teams. The Lions finish with a 7-3 overall record and a 6-3 conference mark. The Profs are 5-5 overall and 5-4 in the NJAC.
TCNJ quarterback James Donoghue (sr. Shamong, NJ/Seneca) threw for 157 yards with 22 completions in 34 attempts. Running back Joe Falco (sr. Ocean, NJ/Ocean Twp.) carried the ball 19 times for 77 yards. He also had seven receptions for 53 yards. Wideout Matthew Rosati (jr. Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne) made five catches for 49 yards.
Linebackers Greg Burns (jr. Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton W.) and Nick Bricker (so. Middletown, NJ/Middletown S.) registered 12 tackles (six solo, six assisted) apiece. Bricker compiled 3.5 tackles for a loss (-18 yards) and one sack (-7 yards), while Burns had two tackles for a loss (-10 yards) and 0.5 sacks (-5 yards). Linebacker Michael Lambert (sr. Holmdel, NJ/Holmdel) also posted 12 stops (five solo, seven assisted). Defensive tackle John Kinzel (sr. Howell, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) tallied 1.5 sacks (-8 yards). Safety James Siracusa (jr. New Providence, NJ/New Providence) and defensive end Patrick Kimball (so. Seaville, NJ/Ocean City) both forced a fumble. Siracusa also had a fumble recovery.
For Rowan, quarterback Louie Bianchini (so. West Long Branch, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) completed 20 of 36 passes for 126 yards. Running backs Keith Corcoran (jr. Atlantic City, NJ/St. Joseph (Hammonton)) and Steve Hevalow (sr. Galloway, NJ/Absegami) rushed for 28 (seven carries) and 22 yards (18 attempts) respectively. Wide receiver Eddie Eisenhart (fr. Mullica Hill, NJ/Clearview Reg.) hauled in five balls for 49 yards.
Safety Eric Sharkey (sr. Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) recorded 12 tackles (eight solo, four assisted), one tackles for a loss (-1 yard) and one forced fumble. Linebacker Dean Hammel (sr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.) collected 11 stops (three solo, eight assisted). Linebacker Moe Ghotok (jr. Northvale, NJ/Northern Valley Old Tappan) added 10 tackles (one solo, nine assisted) and 1.5 sacks (-11 yards). Linebacker Patrick Ruley (jr. Margate, NJ/Atlantic City) contributed with nine tackles (five solo, four assisted), two tackles for a loss (-9 yards), one sack (-8 yards), one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. Defensive end Chris Alvarez (fr. Cliffside Park, NJ/Cliffside Park) forced a fumble and defensive end Chris Popper (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Holy Spirit) had a recovery. Cornerback Brandon Jones (sr. Camden, NJ/Camden Catholic) intercepted a pass.
After a scoreless first quarter, TCNJ went ahead 2-0 at 4:01 in the second following a safety. Profs’ punter Joseph Janovic’s (so. Montvale, NJ/St. Joseph’s (Montvale)) punt was blocked by linebacker Sean Clark (so. Mays Landing, NJ/St. Joseph (Hammonton)) and the ball went out of the back of the end zone. Neither team scored in the third period.
At 14:57 in the fourth, Lions’ kicker Tyler Olssen (sr. Kendall Park, NJ/South Brunswick) made a 20 yard field for a 5-0 lead. TCNJ started on the Rowan 23 yard line after Kimball forced a fumble and Siracusa recovered it. In the drive, Donoghue ran for eight yards and he threw a two yard pass to Falco. With 3:45 remaining in the game, Rowan was called for a holding penalty in the end zone, resulting in a safety.
