Rowan Wins 2-1 In Overtime Against Christopher Newport

SALISBURY, MD – Forward Karlee Henderson scored the winning goal for the Rowan University field hockey team in a 2-1 overtime victory against Christopher Newport University on Sunday.  The game was played at Salisbury University.

Henderson (fr. Elmer, NJ/Woodstown) recorded the game-winner at 1:54 into the first overtime.  She had a pass from back Kelsey O’Neill (jr. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee).  The Captains tied the score at one with a penalty stroke (47:11) by midfielder Lauren Cherry (sr. Yorktown, VA/Tabb).  O’Neill put the Profs on the scoreboard in the first half at 30:49.  Midfielder Erin Bernat (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) assisted on the goal.

Rowan, ranked 17th in the nation, has a 13-6 record while 15th ranked Christopher Newport is    10-5 overall.  The Captains edged the Profs in shots, 13-12.  Goalie Jen Goldberg (jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) made eight saves for Rowan.  CNU goalie Jamie Dowling (jr. Yorktown, VA/Grafton) stopped five shots.    

Rowan travels to Montclair State University on Wednesday, November 2 for the first round of the New Jersey Athletic Conference Championship Tournament at 7 p.m.  The Profs are seeded third in the conference tournament while the Red Hawks are the second seed.
