EWING, NJ – The College of New Jersey field hockey team defeated visiting Rowan University, 4-0 in New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) action on Tuesday night.
The Lions, ranked fourth in the nation, have a 16-2 record. TCNJ finished undefeated in the conference with a 6-0 mark. The Lions are the top seed in the NJAC Championship Tournament that starts on Wednesday, November 2. Rowan is 12-6 overall and 4-2 in the NJAC. The 17th ranked Profs will be the third seed in the conference tournament.
Back Camille Passucci (jr. Denville, NJ/Morris Knolls) put the Lions on the scoreboard at 22:33. It was her 12th goal on the season. Forward Caitlyn Jenkins (jr. Mickleton, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) had the assist. Midfielder Alex Okuniewicz (sr. Toms River, NJ/Toms River S.) recorded the second goal at 41:11 on a penalty stroke. At 51:01, forward Kathleen Notos (jr. Pennsauken, NJ/Camden Catholic) scored unassisted. With three minutes remaining, Jenkins tallied the final goal with a pass from forward Erin Waller (fr. Sewell, NJ/Washington Twp.).
TCNJ totaled 21 shots while Rowan had 11. Goalie Shannon Syciarz (sr. Garwood, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) made five saves for her seventh shutout. For the Profs, goalie Jen Goldberg (jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) stopped nine shots.
Rowan’s last game of the regular season is on Saturday, October 29 against Christopher Newport University at 2:30 p.m. It will be played at Minnie Howard Field in Alexandria, VA.
