GLASSBORO, NJ – Forward Rachael Dix scored two goals to lead Rowan University to a 6-3 victory over Kean University in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Friday night.
The Profs, ranked 17th in this week’s Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III Coaches Poll, are 12-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference. The Cougars have a 9-5 record with a 3-3 NJAC mark.
Midfielder Julie Cairone (sr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee), forward Brittany Phillips (jr. Williamstown, NJ/Delsea Reg.) and backs Janice Camlin (sr. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) and Amy McKeever (so. West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford) all scored once. Back Lauren Conner (sr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) and midfielders Ashley Adams (sr. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) and Erin Bernat (jr. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) collected one assist apiece. Bernat added a defensive save.
For Kean, forwards Stephanie Soares (so. Berkeley Heights, NJ/Governor Livingston) and Olivia Triano (sr. Keyport, NJ/Keyport) and midfielder Kelly Bachovchin (jr. Piscataway, NJ/Piscataway) each registered one goal. Bachovchin also had one defensive save.
Rowan took 20 shots and Kean had seven. Profs’ goalie Jen Goldberg (jr. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) stopped two shots in 66:56. Goalie Lisa Apt (sr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) played the first 3:04. Cougars’ goalie Erin Langan (so. Millburn, NJ/Millburn) turned away five shots.
Soares put Kean ahead, 1-0 at 3:04 in the first period. She shot the ball into the right corner of the cage. At 32:09, Bachovin blasted a shot from the right side to make the score, 2-0 at the intermission.
In the second half, Cairone hit the cage on a penalty stroke at 40:14. Fifty-four seconds later, Adams sent a pass to Dix (sr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) just inside the top right of the circle. Dix blasted it into the cage to tie the game (2-2). her second goal came at 47:01. Conner passed the ball to Dix who dribbled around a defender and scored. With 47:47 on the clock, Triano hit a long shot from the top of the circle to tied the game at three. Camlin’s unassisted goal at 51:43 gave Rowan a 4-3 advantage. Phillips tipped in a shot by Bernat (61:27) and McKeever put in a shot from the middle of the circle (69:48).
Rowan travels to The College of New Jersey for its final conference game of the regular season on Tuesday, October 25 at 7:30 p.m.
