Rowan Shuts Out William Paterson, 3-0

GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University women’s soccer team shut out William Paterson University, 3-0 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Saturday evening.

Midfielder Dayna Sakalsky (so. Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) led the way with two goals and midfielder Veronica Rhea (sr. Pennsauken, NJ/Paul VI) contributed with one.  The Profs are 5-3 overall and undefeated in the conference with a 4-0 mark.  The Pioneers have a 2-5 record and they are 1-4 in the NJAC.

Rowan had a 2-0 lead after the first half. Rhea started the scoring at 13:52.  She beat William Paterson goalkeeper Alyssa Falduto (so. Nutley, NJ/Nutley) after the ball was cleared from the back.  Forward Erika Suhl (fr. Brick, NJ/Brick Mem.) assisted on the goal. Sakalsky scored the second (23:56) on a corner kick with a shot to the lower left corner of the net.  Midfielder Nina Fragoso (jr. Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Reg.) took the corner and back Miranda Donnian (so. Sewell, NJ/Clearview Reg.) passed the ball to Sakalsky.

Sakalsky knocked in a header at 70:59 from midfielder Christie Fink (sr. Hamilton, NJ/Steinert) for the final goal.  Rowan accumulated 15 total shots while William Paterson had four. Goalkeeper Lyndsie Bernardini (jr. Elmer, NJ/A.P. Schalick) made three saves for her second shutout.  Falduto ended the game with five saves.

Rowan travels to Arcadia University on Monday, October 3 for a 4 p.m. nonconference game.
