Women's Basketball Wins Third Straight NJAC Game at Richard Stockton, 68-61

POMONA, NJ – Four players scored in double figures to lead the Rowan University women’s basketball team over Richard Stockton College, 68-61 in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Wednesday night.

It was the Profs’ third straight conference win. Rowan has a 9-7 record with a 4-2 NJAC mark. Richard Stockton is 10-5 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

Forward Lauren Gregg (jr. Collingswood, NJ/Collingswood) was the Profs’ scoring leader with a game-high 17 points. She also had six rebounds and two blocked shots. Forward Brittany Baum (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) contributed with 13 points. Guard Gina Catanzariti recorded a double-double with 11 points and a career-mark 15 rebounds. Forward Erin Farrell (so. Marlton, NJ/Cherokee) came off the bench for 10 points.

For Richard Stockton, center LaTonya Oliver (jr. West Berlin, NJ/Overbrook) totaled 15 points and 13 boards. Forward Lauren Alwan (fr. Winslow, NJ/Timber Creek) registered 12 points and guard/forward Che’Na Thompson (so. Salem, NJ/Salem) followed with 11. Forward Julia Fagan (sr. New Britain, CT/New Britain) added nine points, seven rebounds and six steals.

The Profs started the second half with a six point lead (33-27). Gregg’s three pointer at 18:37 made the score 38-30. Fagan had a basket at 17:31 that cut the deficit to six (40-34). Baum made a layup (16:47) and guard Alissa Lamey (jr. Northfield, NJ/Mainland Reg.) hit a three (15:54) for an 11 point advantage (45-34). Baum nailed a three-pointer (13:43) and the Profs were up by 13 points (50-37).

At the 13 minute mark, Farrell had two foul shots and Rowan was ahead 52-39. The Ospreys followed with three straight baskets to pull within seven points (52-45) at 11:18. Alwan contributed with four points and Oliver had two. Catanzariti’s layup stretched the lead to 11 (58-47) with 9:36 remaining. Richard Stockton came within five points (58-53) at 5:31 after baskets by guard Aspen Price-Perry (so. Lindenwold, NJ/Lindenwold) (9:13), Alwan (8:26) and Fagan (5:31). Alwan made two free throws at 3:23 and the Ospreys trailed by two points (60-58). The Profs then made eight of 10 foul shots to lead 68-58 with 11 seconds left. Price-Perry ended the scoring with a three-pointer at the three second mark. Baum compiled 11 points in the second period.

In the first stanza, Oliver’s jumper at 13:50 put Richard Stockton ahead 10-6. The Ospreys led by five points (13-8) at 9:48 after a three by guard Erin MacAdams (fr. Gloucester, NJ/Gloucester). Gregg had a layup (8:27) and the Profs trailed by one point (13-12). Rowan had back-to back jumpers for its first lead of the game (17-16) with 6:13 remaining. Guard Chanelle Banta (jr. Bergenfield, NJ/Bergenfield) and Catanzariti each had one at 6:44 and 6:13 respectively.

The score was tied twice, at 21 (3:18) and at 23 (2:05) then Rowan took the lead for the remainder of the half. Alwan’s jumper made the score 23-23 and Gregg scored with a three at 1:52. Banta followed with a jumper (1:21) and Gregg added two free throws (:58) for a seven point advantage (30-23). Gregg had a basket at the four second mark and Rowan had a six point advantage (33-27) at the intermission. She was the scoring leader with 13 first half points.

Rowan plays at home on Saturday, January 22 against New Jersey City University at 1 p.m.
