POMONA, NJ – Midfielder Ashley Adams and forward Lauren Ross each scored two goals for the Rowan University field hockey team in a 5-2 victory over conference opponent Richard Stockton College on Wednesday night.
Adams (jr. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) broke a 2-2 tie at 62:30 with an assist from forward Julie Cairone (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee). At 67:04, Adams registered her second goal on a pass from Cairone. Midfielder Erin Bernat (so. Glassboro, NJ/Glassboro) sealed the win with unassisted goal with 1:34 remaining.
Cairone ended the game with three assists. For Richard Stockton, forward Susie Balidemaj (fr. Hamilton, NJ/Hamilton E.) had two goals. The Profs, ranked 13th in the nation, improve to 4-3 on the season. The Ospreys have a 0-7 record. It was the first New Jersey Athletic Conference game for both teams.
Rowan totaled 23 shots and the Ospreys took nine. In the Profs’ cage, goalie Lisa Apt (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) made five saves. Richard Stockton goalie Debi O’Kane (sr. Cologne, NJ/Absegami) turned away 14 shots.
Ross put Rowan on the scoreboard first at 1:58 when she knocked in a rebounded shot after a save. Balidemaj tied the game at the 25 minute mark. Ross’ second goal came at 43:44 and Cairone picked up an assist. Balidemaj tied the score for the second time at 46:15.
Next, Rowan plays at Stevenson University on Saturday, September 25 at 1 p.m.
