WASHINGTON, DC – The Catholic University field hockey team topped Rowan University, 2-1 in a nonconference game on Saturday.
The Cardinals improve to 6-0, while the Profs have a 3-3 record. Rowan was tied for eighth in this week’s Kookaburra/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Coaches Poll.
The Cardinals went ahead, 1-0 at 6:56 in the first period after an unassisted goal by forward Emma Dixon (sr. Ardmore, PA/Country Day Sacred Heart). Profs’ forward Julie Cairone (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) scored on a penalty stroke at 43:34 in the second half to tie the score (1-1). At 46:54, Catholic forward Meredith Chandler (sr. Tiburon, CA/St. Ignatius) found the cage on a feed from forward Mary Swarthout (jr. Rockville, MD/Good Counsel).
Catholic took 10 shots and Rowan had nine. Goalie Krystyanna Ramsdell (jr. Millbury, MA/Holy Name Central Catholic) made six saves for the Cardinals. Goalie Lisa Apt (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) stopped eight shots in the Profs’ cage.
Rowan opens up its conference schedule at Richard Stockton College on Tuesday, September 22 at 7 p.m.
