GLASSBORO, NJ – The Rowan University field hockey team shut out FDU-Florham, 4-0 on Wednesday night.
The Profs, tied for eighth in the national rankings, improve to 3-2 on the season. The Devils have a 2-4 record. Forward Lauren Ross (sr. Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester) and midfielder Rachael Dix (jr. Egg Harbor Twp., NJ/Egg Harbor Twp.) each scored one goal and had one assist. Midfielder Ashley Adams (jr. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek) and forward Nicole Valianti (sr. Oaklyn, NJ/Collingswood) contributed with one goal apiece. Forward Julie Cairone (jr. Medford, NJ/Shawnee) added an assist.
Rowan totaled 25 shots and FDU took seven. In the Profs’ cage, Jen Goldberg (so. Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) played 64:26 and made six saves. Goalie Lisa Apt (jr. Mays Landing, NJ/Oakcrest) stopped one shot in the final 5:34. For the Devils, goalie Tess Laughran (fr. Newton, NJ/Newton) turned away 13 shots.
The Profs had a 1-0 lead after the first half. Rowan was awarded a penalty corner as time expired. Ross had a centering shot from the right side of the cage to Dix who knocked the ball in. In the second period, Adams scored on a pass from Cairone at 39:26. Ross tipped in a shot at 51:40 for the third goal and Dix had the assist. Valianti recorded the final goal unassisted with 7:56 remaining.
Rowan travels to Catholic University on Saturday, September 18 for a 4:30 p.m. game.
